When former Gastineau Girls, mother-daughter duo Lisa and Brittny Gastineau, created their Tres Glam fine jewelry line, they did so from the perspective of reality stars and Hollywood insiders. “The diamond evil eye in 18 karat gold is our main thing,” Brittny told PEOPLE from Los Angeles, where she lives with her mother. “It’s designed to protect you from any jealousy. And of course there’s a lot of jealousy, especially when you’re on TV. You have a lot of eyes [on you] and sometimes not everyone’s wishing you well.” Brittny has given the baubles to best friend Kim Kardashian and E! News host Giuliana Rancic, schooling them in her family’s superstition before bestowing the gifts. “I just feel like when you’re in the public eye, you do need protection. And I’m telling you, I feel naked without my evil eye. If I don’t have it on, I like freak out.” As for whether the Gastineaus would do another reality show, having seen the astronomical success of their close pals the Kardashians, Brittny says yes—but the focus would have to be on their work: “I love TV shows with depth. For anyone who wondered why fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld picked British pop star Lily Allen to be the new face of Chanel’s Coco Cocoon collection, he cleared it up for Elle.com. The Kaiser explained that he “loves Lily’s humor, her cheekiness, her talent.” And the fact that she’s cute doesn’t hurt either, with Karl citing “her little upturned nose, and her perfect décolletage.” The British starlet, a regular at Chanel’s fashion shows in Paris, has also launched a jewelry line and is slated to star in Neil LaBute’s new West End production of Reasons to Be Pretty in 2010. As if her singing career doesn’t keep her busy enough, Alicia Keys is taking on jewelry design. The 12-time Grammy award-winning R&B singer is teaming up with The Barber’s Daughters designer Gisele Theriault for a collection of necklaces due out in fall 2010. Alicia first met Gisele while she was touring in Toronto through her bandmates, who happened to be buying the jewelry backstage at her show. “I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me,” Alicia tells WWD about Gisele’s pieces, which are inscribed with poetry and prayers. “I knew at that moment, for the first time, that through a whole other medium I would be able to spread inspiration, and that’s what got me started.” Alicia’s collection of necklaces for The Barbara’s Daughters will range in price from $85 to $2,500 and feature precious metals and gems inscribed with inspirational messages. And while the collection won’t be available until next year, New Yorkers will get a first look and chance to purchase her baubles next week during a two-day preview at a temporary shop at Collette Blanchard Gallery at 26 Clinton Street. First Brad and Angelina, then the Kardashians, and now Michelle Trachtenberg is stepping into the jewelry design business! The Gossip Girl troublemaker has teamed up with Coach to design a range of baubles for the brand’s fun and fresh Poppy collection. Michelle Trachtenberg for Poppy is described by Coach as embodying “refined-romantic with attitude, bringing a punky look to a lush mix of materials and inspirations.” Michelle says, “Getting the opportunity to design jewelry for Coach’s Poppy collection was too exciting to pass up. The collections are perfect representations of my whimsical attitude towards fashion and have that great mix of girly and edgy that I love.” While Michelle Trachtenberg for Poppy is slated to launch for Spring 2010, a small preview collection of bee motif pieces in emerald greens and cobalt blues will be available on December 1 at Coach.com and in Coach stores. Michelle’s holiday preview collection will range in price from $78 – $128 and will include a bracelet, necklace, ring and earrings while the spring collection includes five more pieces retailing from $128 – $328. Not only will the Kardashian sisters’ clothing line for Bebe hit stores this spring, but Kim, Kourtney and Khloe will also be launching a jewelry collection for hip L.A. brand Virgin Saints and Angels. “The collection embraces our unique style…. Romantic, edgy, and classic vintage… of at least we hope so . Our Armenian culture is very important to us and we tried to incorporate that in the jewelry also,” Kim writes on her official website. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have put their creative minds to something new — elegant serpent-themed jewelry! The power couple has teamed with a top British jeweler Asprey to come up with a series of designs for everything from earrings, pendants, bangles, rings to a silver spoon and egg cup. And, like so much of their life away from the cameras, the collection will benefit others. All the net proceeds will go to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, to which the couple has already donated $1 million via the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in June 2008. For Jolie, 34, the inspiration for the collection was an obvious one. While she was expecting Shiloh in 2006, she was given a special gift — a protective snake ring. It was seen as a protector for mother and unborn child, and Jolie has come to view the motif as something of a family guardian. “Since then she has seen the snake symbol as a protective talisman for her family,” a source at Asprey tells PEOPLE. The series started out as something for children — 16-month-old Vivienne has already been photographed wearing bangles with the snake motifs– but has developed into the limited edition “Protector Collection” of high end jewelry and other luxuries, which does still include children’s items like a tooth box and silver egg cup. Courteney Cox and David Arquette have headed back to the design studio just in time for the holidays. The husband-and-wife design team have been working with Satya Jewelry since 2007 on a collection of butterfly-inspired jewels to benefit the EB Medical Research Foundation, a cause close to the Arquettes’ hearts. “There is a beautiful child named Brendon, the son of one of our dear friends, Andrea Pett Joseph, who was born with Epidermolysis Bullosa or EB [a rare skin disease],” David tells Vogue.com. “We were not aware of the condition until it affected us personally but, of course, once we got to know this incredible child we wanted to do whatever we could to help.” Since the launch of their EB jewelry collection, the Arquettes and Satya Jewelry have raised over $200,000 to benefit EBMRF. For this upcoming holiday season, David and Courteney have added three new pieces to their collection, including a new butterfly pendant, a new “hope” pendant and an onyx, blue topaz and turquoise bracelet with a sterling silver charm. Jimmy Choo Founder and President Tamara Mellon stepped out in London last night to host the global launch party of the brand’s ‘Project PEP’. The limited edition collection with its rock ‘n’ roll, punk-inspired print will raise funds for the Simelela Rape Centre in Cape Town, a project started by Mellon and the Elton John Aids Foundation in 2005.  “When you buy one of these products here tonight, it will release the PEP medication straight to the women in Africa,” Mellon told PEOPLE as she greeted guests such as Guy Ritchie and bikini designer, Melissa Odabash, who was modeling the sky high gladiator ‘PEP Loop’ heels. Jimmy Choo will donate 25% of the net sales from this capsule collection to fund the pioneering centre where rape victims exposed to HIV are given anti-retroviral drugs to stop the virus developing. “I went to South Africa earlier this year, and I’m planning another trip in 2010,” said Mellon, adding “It was emotional but it was also an uplifting experience to see that this really does make a difference, it takes the shame away from these women.” So how does the multi-tasking Mellon, who has a H&M collaboration launching next month and a perfume in the works, juggle all of this with charity work and bringing up her 7-year-old daughter Araminta: “I don’t know!” she laughs, “I do enjoy several coffees in the morning, that tends to keep me going.” The collection is available worldwide from 4th November or buy online at jimmychoo.com.

When co-founder and Global Ambassador Alicia Keys wanted to raise money for her charity Keep-A-Child Alive, a charity that is dedicated to providing life-saving anti-retroviral treatment, care and support services to families whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India, she called upon her famous friends, of course. Stars like Halle Berry, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Queen Latifah, Iman and Padma Lakshmi joined the singer for a night of glitz and glam in New York City where Halle proved to be the night’s heaviest bidder, taking home a one-of-kind, 18k gold, blue kyanite and ruby necklace for $40,000 — all of which benefited Keep-A-Child-Alive. The necklace, which was co-designed by Alicia for jewelry line The Barber’s Daughters, is inscribed with an inspirational quote from the singer that says “Always shine/ light on the/world./Alicia Keys”. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have made oversize shades a signature part of their style, so it’s no wonder that the superstar designers have chosen to add vintage-inspired shades to their luxury label The Row. And though The Row’s sunglass collection won’t be hitting stores until spring, Mary-Kate is already showing it off. The designer secretly debuted an oversized square frame — one of four styles that make up the collection — at the Burberry runway show during London Fashion Week. The other three styles include a classic metal aviator, vintage-inspired brow-line and a pair of round shades taken from the ’60s, according to WWD. “We’re testing the market first and obviously these are four very different silhouettes, so we’re seeing what people are responding to and we’ll open up a couple more silhouettes for fall,” Ashley tells WWD of the collaboration with Linda Farrow Eyewear, who is already responsible for Bernard Wilhelm, Dries Van Noten and Jeremy Scott’s edgy eyewear. Mary-Kate and Ashley have already made a mark in the accessories market with jewelry and shoes for their contemporary label, Elizabeth and James, but adding sunglasses proved to be a new challenge for the designers. “Designing eyewear was definitely more complicated than we thought, and of course, we wanted to be extremely hands-on,” Mary-Kate tells WWD. When shoe-designer-to-the-stars Giuseppe Zanotti turned up at Manhattan’s Saks Fifth Avenue on Friday afternoon, he wasn’t the only famous face to surprise shoppers. Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively took a break from shooting her hit series to meet the man and chat fall shoes. Blake, who sports Zanotti both on-set and on the red carpet, instantly impressed the designer. “Blake Lively is a true Giuseppe Zanotti woman,” the designer tells PEOPLE. “The Giuseppe Zanotti woman loves fashion and enjoys being up-to-date. She is self-confident and has a strong personality.” He continues, “She told me that she creates her own style; I think that makes her authentic and special.” One key to Blake’s much-coveted style? Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, of course! The actress spent most of the afternoon trying on pair after pair — and even left with a pair of boots signed by the designer himself. Looks like Lindsay isn’t the only Lohan working as a designer these days. Just days after her daughter’s Paris runway debut as Ungaro’s artistic advisor, Dina Lohan has announced she will be launching a shoe line, appropriately named “Shoe-Han”, for Long Island based chain store LoveMyShoes.com. And that’s not all, the former E! reality star will also take on the role as national spokesmodel for the retailer appearing later this month on television and radio commercials. What girl doesn’t love diamonds? For jewelry designer and heiress Ivanka Trump, her love affair with the gems started early. “The first important piece of jewelry I ever got was a diamond necklace my mom gave me from her collection when I turned 21,” Ivanka tells InStyle in their October issue. “Part of our bonding as I grew up was watching her accessorize for a night out.” So the decision to design jewelry was a natural one, says Ivanka: “Clothing has less of an immediate appeal to me. Jewelry is more than an accessory. In fact, a dress is an accessory to the jewelry,” she continues. This philosophy is evident in the way the diamond designer keeps her clothing classic and conservative. “I’m not afraid to be over-the-top with jewels. As far as diamonds go, the bigger the better,” she says. And though she likes her diamonds big — fiance Jared Kushner proposed to her with a 5-carat stunner he designed himself– Ivanka cautions against accessorizing with too many jewels at once. “I also don’t believe that layering creates the look. Why, go to Topshop of course!  Olivia Palermo made a brief appearance at London Fashion Week this weekend to check out the Matthew Williamson show and to attend Topshop’s show for its Unique line. Sitting front row at Williamson on Sunday, she told PEOPLE, “I love the way Matthew uses color and I’ve been a huge fan of Topshop for as long as I can remember, so I’m really excited to see both shows.” With filming of The City having just wrapped, Palermo is keen to get her next project under way. “I’m really excited actually, I’m doing a collaboration with Roberta Freymann for a necklace collection,” she revealed. “I designed two styles that will go into her store and we’re working on an exclusive retail deal, probably in Bendels.” According to the fashionable TV star, her perfect Sunday in London would be a low key, paparazzi-free day. “Usually [her boyfriend] Johannes is with me and we love walking around Notting Hill just relaxing, but it’s Fashion Week so I’m here instead and so far it’s been great.” –Monique Jessen

When actress Zooey Deschanel, 29, and Death Cab for Cutie front man Benjamin Gibbard, 33, came into jeweler Neil Lane’s Los Angeles store about a month ago, they were “absolutely adorable,” the jeweler tells PEOPLE. And they were on a mission: find the perfect wedding band to complement Deschanel’s Lane-designed engagement ring — a 3-carat Asscher cut diamond ring set in platinum with small diamond details around it. The result was not one, but two, one-of-a-kind, identical eternity bands with alternating small rubies and diamonds. “One is to wear close to her heart,” says Lane, who designed the rings with the couple’s input. “(Gibbard) really wanted to get something she loved and they wanted to choose it together, so the three of us designed it. The bands are a nice contrast to her white platinum and diamond engagement ring. The red represented a lot of love and affection and it is really unusual.” Engaged since December, the indie rocker and (500) Days of Summer star tied the knot Saturday night near Seattle. “They adore each other,” says Lane. “They’re really fun to be around and very much in love, with great energy together.” –Elizabeth Leonard
