Fourth of July Nail Art: Three Very Different (but Easy-to-Do!) Manicures

07/03/2015 at 04:30 PM ET

If we could offer one tip for the Fourth of July weekend, it’s that red white or blue nails (or a cool combo of all three colors) are the way to go. So after you’ve finished hand-smashing potatoes for your award-winning salad, pop into the nearest salon (or get out your kit for some DIY fun) and apply a design that will work with your beach and BBQ attire. Here are our faves for Independence Day.

Jackie Fields, Beauty Editor: Katy Perry said: “Baby you’re a firework.” And she was right. So, this weekend I’m making sure all my friends say, “oh, oh, oh” not just to the lit up sky, but to my sparkly mani. I started with TenOverTen’s Washington, which is hands down the best white nail polish ever created. I believe the name of the color was inspired by the N.Y.C. street, it couldn’t be more fitting for this patriotic weekend. After three coats, I opted to top my middle fingers off with Trust Fund Beauty’s Killer Heels. It’s a multi-color sparkle that I applied not to the entire nail, but diagonally from the bottom left corner across to the top right, then from the bottom right corner across to the top left, so that some white would still be very stylishly visible on those nails. When used as an overlay on top of my low-key ivory, this glittery coat created a look that was super-fun, but age still age-appropriate.

Gigi Hadid Got All Her Prom Dresses from Her Mom Yolanda's Closet!

07/03/2015 at 02:00 PM ET

Gigi Hadid is kind of a big deal these days. To recap, the 20-year-old model has walked on just about every major catwalk, is the current face of Maybelline New York and lands a new ad campaign every other week (not to mention she’s part of Taylor Swift’s squad). Which is why we were so excited to sit down with the star to chat all things fashion — like stealing clothes from her mom’s closet, the secret behind her ultra-revealing amfAR Gala gown and why she considers her friends to be her style icons.

We Tried It: An At-Home Tailoring Service

07/02/2015 at 04:42 PM ET

Who Tried It: Four members of PEOPLE Style’s Fashion Team
What I Tried: zTailors, an on-demand tailoring service that will come to your home or office
Why I Did It: Because there’s nothing grosser than those weird half-closed curtain rooms at the dry cleaner’s, and because, let’s be honest, clothes that don’t fit just fester in our closet until we finally give them away.
Level of Difficulty: 1 — it was probably the most seamless (pun intended) tailoring experience ever. The extremely professional Deborah (below) met us at our office on one Wednesday and delivered everyone’s clothes back (and tailored to perfection) by the following Wednesday. (She specializes in womenswear, but zTailors will match you up with a tailor whose expertise matches your needs — i.e. men’s suits, bridal, etc.) And prices are painless — about the same or less than you’d be charged at any standard N.Y.C. tailoring shop.
