Happy National Lipstick Day: We Pick Our Favorite Shades
We usually share our favorite shopping picks on Tuesdays, but in honor of National Lipstick Day (yes, it’s an actual holiday!), we’re sharing our favorite lip shades. From one major Joyus find to some seriously luxe formulas and the best drugstore buys, see the pout products that have style editors puckering up (and taking tons of selfies).

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: I picked up this Lipstick Queen “Jungle Queen” for two reasons: It’s a new shade from one of my favorite lipstick brands (moisturizing, never flaky) and secondly, because it reminds me of watermelon (as in, the kind Bey’s been drankin’). I’m normally a nude lip kinda girl, or maybe a classic red for certain occasions, but this pretty pink-but-not-too-saccharine color is so summery, I couldn’t resist. I’ll be wearing it all night, oh hoo oh. Sorry, couldn’t resist that either.
Andrea Lavinthal, Inset Maybelline
Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: I hope I don’t get my beauty editor card revoked for admitting this, but I rarely wear lipstick. In fact, I hate the way color looks on my lips (yet another thing Angelina Jolie and I have in common). So on the rare occasion that I do apply lipstick, my preferred shade is very pale and beige, or as I like to call it, “sexy corpse.” Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in “Truffle Tease” has a just a hint of peach so it doesn’t completely wash me out and despite the matte, opaque finish the formula is moisturizing so you don’t have that unattractive cakey look.

Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: As a wannabe pin-up girl, I wear red lipstick about 355 days a year. CoverGirl LipPerfection lip color in “Hot #305″ is the ultimate scarlet hue — even Janelle Monae is obsessed. It looks gorg on every skin tone, never ever dries out your pout, lasts all day (honest! I usually reapply after lunch and that’s it!) and it makes your teeth look über white. Bonus: it costs less than a green juice.

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I love bright lipstick — so much so that when we were trying out lip colors with Audrina my coworkers kept sliding neon shades over, saying, “This is such an Alex color.” My favorite hue varies depending on my mood, the day, the weather … Today I’m loving Jouer’s “Simone,” a super-rich cool red that amps up my very basic outfit and makes me feel more awake. (And yes, I did my go-to lip prep routine first!)

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: There’s a perfect red for every woman, but I’m lucky enough to have two that I’ve sworn by for a few years now. For a bright pop of color during the day I swear by Rouge D’Armani “401″, an orange-red, while Rouge D’Armani 400 is my true blue rouge, my night-time go-to. When I have a few minutes to kill and I combine them (with a lip brush of course) that’s when the magic happens.

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I still feel like I’m a seven-year-old girl playing with lipstick when I put on this bright shade, which makes wearing Dolce & Gabbana’s Classic Cream formula in “Guilty” so much more fun. It’s the perfect hue to play up an LBD or LWD, and I know I’m on-trend while wearing it because hot pinks are all over the carpet right now. The only problem: I’m still warming up my fiancé to the statement look, but when I got out with my friends they “get it.”
