Piper Perabo's Wedding Dress Is Michael Kors - and It's Also a Truly Awesome Fashion Faceoff With Jennifer Lopez

07/28/2014 at 12:20 PM ET

Piper Perabo’s wedding dress is a huge topic of conversation in the PEOPLE office. Yes, it’s a very unique bridal choice. No, we’ve never seen a veil that shade before. But that isn’t what has style editors buzzing. We knew the dress looked familiar, and we finally pin-pointed why. It’s the same striking style Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2013 Met Gala.

Perabo’s silver sequin animal print gown is a twin to the black-and-nude Michael Kors second-skin stunner JLo wore to the Punk-themed fashion fΓͺte. Though we don’t have a back view to compare to Lopez’s (it’s a large keyhole cutout), it appears to be the same design, just in a different, more bridal metallic hue for her NYC wedding to director-producer Stephen Kay on July 26. And to add to the faceoff fun, supermodel Naomi Campbell selected the gown in the silver hue, making it a triple star style showdown.

The Covert Affairs actress definitely gets the award for most unique celebrity wedding dress of the summer — and it’s always fun to see great minds think alike (though in this case, they accessorize somewhat differently). What did you think of Perabo’s gown? Do you think it’s a fun alternative choice? Who wore the Michael Kors design better? Sound off below.

yuck!

While the dress is very striking-it really doesn’t look like a wedding gown to me. Piper is so pretty and I want to see a real bridal look!

victoria on

it’s her day and she can’t wear whatever she wants. i like how people chooses just the right words in order to passive aggressively insult her choice. go piper!

Carrie M on

Definitely NOT my cup of tea but if’s she’s happy….

Jacqui on

I personally don’t find the dress to be bridal in any way, but at the end of the day, it’s her wedding, and she can wear what she wants! Although, I’m dying to know what she was thinking for a yellow veil… Good for her to buck the system! I hope she is blissfully happy with her choice and I wish her good luck in her marriage!

Lisa on

Am I the only one who thinks that she appears to be pregnant?

marie on

If she likes it, I love it for her. Yellow Veils will be alll over the place now!

Gwen on

I love Piper and CA, but this gown is hideous, and the veil even worse. Such a pretty lady, and she bagged herself on her wedding day. :(

heather on

I don’t like the dress personally, but I do LOVE that she went outside of the box with her wedding dress!!

Reggie on

It’s her day and she can wear what she wants but It is nothing that I would wear for such an occasion. It almost looks like it is a costume of some sort especially with that yellow veil.

Scoobygurl on

Not sure about the choice for a wedding dress, but it’s her wedding and if she liked it, that’s all that matters. I think it looked better on Jennifer with her curves though.

Erin on

I wouldn’t wear it, but she looks happy and that’s what matters. More power to her!

Suzanne on

I think the dress is ugly as is the veil but so is her husbands suit and hat; it all looks like cr*p. Tacky, tacky, tacky

Renae on

It would have looked better without the veil.

Jenna on

Kind of mean to post a fashion comparison with a BRIDE, don’t you think PEOPLE editors? Would you want to know who wore YOUR dress better? I didn’t think so. Get some class.

Malai2sw33tz on

It’s super ugly! Especially on your wedding day 😳😳😳 she could of chose something more simple & flattering to her body shape .. Of course Jlo wears it better she the queen style icon .. She didn’t have her own clothing line for nothing 😳😳

Best wishes to the couple .. May they have long & happy marriage 😍😍😍

JP on

Jennifer looks amazing in it, Piper not so much.

CatW on

I think the dress by itself would have fun and different but I don’t like the sliver dress paired with yellow veil.. Dress alone super cute :)

Ale on

I think the dress is beautiful and very unique for a wedding. What I dont get is the veil. I think the veil should have been another shade, more according to the color of the dress. The veil is what makes the look weird.

Tania on

It’s not a fair comparison, because JLo is posing and Piper was caught in a candid and not abdominally flattering moment. I like it both ways, but the metallic and yellow clash and wash out blonde Piper. Congrats though!

Red Skye on

It’s her day! She’s a beautiful bride and she could have warn”Jeans and tennis shoes” and still look great!

Yo-Yo on

Not anything I’d wear but it looks good on her.

Meghan on

Definitely wear what you love on your wedding day, but to me i’ts not that flattering. Her coloring washed the dress out.

S on

She got married in New Orleans in a fun, off beat location! It is perfect!

Mamagirl31 on

I love that Piper was trying to be edgy and also love the yellow vail with the color of the dress but since it doesn’t work as a wedding dress I say JLO wore it better and at a more appropriate occasion. Wedding dresses don’t always need to be conventional but my opinion is that it just didn’t work. Still a beautiful bride though!!

Karolina on

It certainly isn’t a dress I would choose for my wedding, but she obviously likes it and that is what matters. It certainly is unique! I also think the veil should have been a different color; something that matched a bit more with the color of the dress. But hey, whatever makes a bride happy on her wedding day! Good luck to them and wishing them a long and happy marriage.

Marsha on

It looks so different in black! I don’t really care for either, but it’s not my wedding eh. I think she looks like snake on the left!

trimb on

Love the dress but the veil is hideous . She seem happy and preggers

lila on

Love it that she decided upon something non-traditional! Striking!!

Riana on

Def looking prego

yahoo on

She wanted to stand out in her choice of dress, but Jenny from the block is too stubby IMO to pull off such an elongated dress.

@CassPereyra on

I love everything about piper’s look from head to ankle -not so much for the shoes- & apparently I’m the only one. comments like “doesn’t look bridal” make me laugh, she obviously wasn’t going for traditional. of course JLo looks killer posing on a red carpet, but how is no one saying that Naomi looks horrible in the dress? on paper a yellow veil reads as a disaster, but I really do love how it looks -kind of a vintage vibe. maybe I’m so drawn to it b/c I’d never be brave enough to be that daring.

hmmanley on

Double YUK. This is hopefully the day you will cherish the rest of your life. Not in that dress.

Holly on

Looks like Sienna Miller

Deirdre on

Interesting choice, but whatever makes you happy. She does look like she might be pregnant. More happiness!!

nclyn on

She can start a new tradition … take both the dress & the veil into her back yard … and burn them.

Yolanda Arias on

If that’s the dress she wanted, who are we to judge? She looks beautiful. I’m sick of nasty comments. Remember what your mother told you, if you gave nothing nice to say, don’t say anything.

suval57 on

Piper looks stunning. She’s a gorgeous girl and looks beautiful in
almost anything she wears. Congratulations to Piper and her husband.
I wish them many years of wedded bliss.

Heather on

Ugh…that is the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen!

vanessa on

Hideous.

Mariel on

Such a pretty girl, so this is not at all what I pictured she’d choose for a wedding look; I guess to each her own. I wonder if she might look back one day and wonder what she was thinking. Congrats to her on her marriage, though!

lola on

The dress is different… ok. I get it, you want a unique look, but the hair and veil? Those I just don’t get. They both look so messy. She does look very happy, so I guess that is what counts.

Frances on

I think she looks pretty and super happy! And I think the whole tone of this article is pretty snarky and reflects poorly on the author and the magazine.

Julie on

It was her wedding day and she wore what she wanted to. I really like the veil as well. Congratulations Piper!

GUICEY on

She does looks pregnant. Love her and the show

Carrie on

I LIKE THE DRESS, EVEN FOR A WEDDING, BUT THE YELLOW VEIL CHEAPENS THE LOOK. SHE WOULD HAVE LOOKED SO MUCH BETTER WITH A RHINESTONE HAIR ACCESORY AND NO VEIL. I’M WONDERING IF THERE WAS SOME PERSONAL MEANING TO THE YELLOW.

LH on

Veil seems to match her hair And accents her face etc. Dress is perfect for her style and vivid personality as reflected in her career choices. She will always have photos of her great dress selection to remind her of “her” wedding and not one that a planner made for her. Yea Perabo! πŸ’

cbcb on

very cool! she looks great! i’m traditional myself, but i love when someone has the courage to break the “rules” and wear what feels right.

suzy diamond on

It’s a nice dress but not as a Wedding dress. Doesn’t look like it is a Wedding dress at all.

Chris w5317 on

Piper wore it better. No matter what she wears it always looks great! Glad to see someone finally having some fun on there wedding day.

Annette on

can the poor girl have a bridal moment without having to be compared to anyone else? let her have her queen for a day moment!
