Blake Lively's 'Preserve:' She Gives a Hint About the Name (and Gushes About Husband Ryan Reynolds)

07/18/2014 at 12:14 PM ET

We have so many questions about Blake Lively‘s soon-to-launch “curated lifestyle” site, Preserve, including: What will she feature? Will she be writing about her happy home life? And really, what on earth does “Preserve” even mean? She’s keeping most of the answers close to the vest (for now), but in her Vogue cover story, she gives a clue as to where she might have found the name for her site — and it’s a sweet anecdote from her wedding to Ryan Reynolds.

It all dates back to their super-secret Charleston, S.C. nuptials, where she had a mishap with the sparklers that were glittering while Florence Welch sang. “I look down and my wedding dress has a big burn mark from one of the sparklers. Right on the front! And it was just so heartbreaking to me,” she says. “And later, my dress was hanging up and Ryan said, ‘Isn’t that beautiful?’ I said, ‘What?’ And he pointed to the burn. My heart just stopped, because it was such a sensitive little subject. And he said, ‘You’ll always remember that moment with Florence singing and the sparklers. You have that forever, right there, preserved.’ Now that’s my favorite part of the dress.”

She’s going with that same vibe — beautiful with a little bit of an imperfect edge — to create the content for her upcoming site. So rather than an unattainably perfect feel à la Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Lively aims to show the world things that are beautiful for their flaws. “[I'm] not trying to show you the perfect life or the aspirational life. It’s real life,” she says. “It’s the thing that blindsides you on an idle Tuesday that’s tragic but that also makes you who you are. It’s not about me. And it’s not about watching my journey of learning how-to, it’s about me sharing that with you so we all sort of learn together.”

That’s not to say she’s not expecting Goop-level backlash. “I’m sure there will be plenty of people who will say horrible things … But you can’t worry about it … You just have to do what makes you happy, because you’ll never get a unanimous vote,” she says. “People … don’t bond over complimenting famous people. I’m always the first person to defend Gwyneth Paltrow. Or any woman in a position of power, like Martha Stewart or Oprah, who gets burned. Because they have paved the path for so many other women who are doing something they believe in.”

Since Reynolds inspired the name of the site, can we expect long think pieces and street style shots from him? Not exactly — but you’ll see his DNA throughout. “He’s a part of it because everything we do in life we do together,” she says. “Picking out a coffee table. What we’re going to eat. He’s a beautiful writer — he’s written a lot of stuff for us. And he’s got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it’s not as good as it can be.”

And even the notoriously private Lively can’t help but gush over her handsome husband in the pages of Vogue. “He’s going to be a great father and leader and patriarch—he’s so meant to be all of those things. The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he’s the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”

“the thing that blindsides you on an idle Tuesday” – swiped from the song “Wear Sunscreen”? …

When are these celebs going to quit exploiting their marriages with their heads up in the clouds? Way more often than not it blows up in their faces. Then their next “soul mate” comes long six months later and the adulation starts all over.

Don’t really get the big deal about her, she’ s a basic pretty blonde. But she’s sounds really in love with her husband, so good for her and good luck to them.

Wow – she really messed up her face. That profile shot looks awful. At this rate, she’ll look like Joan Rivers before she’s even hit 40.

Don’t really like her – not sure why – she just has something irritating about her – BUT she is way better than ScarJo…………

She sounds so happy in her marriage. I’m sure she’ll get a lot of negativity regarding what she posts, a la Gwyneth, but she’s always been the same person with the same positive attitude. In a generation of LiLos, she’s managed to stay out of the party scene and rid refreshing to see.

Awwwww! The way she speaks about Ryan is so sweet! They seem so happy! Good for her! Congratulations!

People are talking about how happy she seems in her marriage. Of course, she does. She’s a newlywed. How many newlyweds blasts their new spouse? Remember that this is a marriage made in Hollywood.

I’m not a big Blake follower, I have never watched Gossip Girl, but she seems very down to earth, and likable. I would be much more inclined to check out her new website than GOOP. Good luck to her!
