Jessica Simpson's Custom Wedding Manicure: All the Scoop, Plus an Exclusive Photo
From the dress to the matching rings to the cake, Jessica Simpson paid great attention to detail when planning her gorgeous summer wedding to Eric Johnson. So it should come as no surprise that her manicure was also extra special (and of course, it required more than one polish shade to perfect).

“When I created the color, I was actually custom-matching [it] to the dress,” celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik told PEOPLE. “We wanted it to be in the same vein of the dress without being too matchy-matchy. Jess picked the final color, and I kept going back to [stylist/bridesmaid] Nicole [Chavez] and asking, ‘Lighter or darker?’ and she said, Lets keep it lighter, fun and fresh.”
The end result? A mix of four different custom gels with layers of taupe, tan and even a hint of shimmer. “The process started with a base color. Originally, I went a little more taupe and cool in tone and then as we played with it it didn’t feel romantic and warm enough. So I added a different tan, I warmed up the color and then lightened it up quite a bit to pick up the highlights in the dress. I finished it off with a custom blend of pearlescent gold shimmer that gave it a champagne luminosity and some depth and sparkle.”
And the color wasn’t complete until the big day. “I probably went back and forth like 20 times that morning to look at the dress in the bedroom and match the color,” Bachik says.
As for the bridesmaids, Bachik says, it was nude for manis and pedis: “It was very neutral and classic. They all had their own nude shades and it looked great with all the different colors of the dresses.”
He added that sister Ashlee Simpson needed a little convincing on the pedi: “She was like, ‘Nude on my toes? What am going to do? I always do color!'”
But her big sister’s vision ultimately pulled everything together perfectly. “Jess was so totally calm,” Bachik shared. “The main thing she wanted was to be in the moment, and she wanted her girls to look perfect. It was so sweet and fun.”
What do you think of her mani? Do you like the taupe shade?
