Rumer Willis Gets an Edgy New Haircut and Goes Blonde: See the Photos

07/14/2014 at 06:24 PM ET

She may not have pink hair anymore, but Rumer Willis is still pushing the beauty envelope. The actress debuted a new cut and color change over the weekend, and it’s time to talk about it.

Rumer not only went back to blonde (she had a similar hue last summer), but the star also cut several inches off her chest-length strands, sporting an asymmetrical long bob. Naturally, she gave a peek at her new look on Instagram, posting two dramatic photos from a shoot she did with Tyler Shields. “Love my new hair do courtesy of @domdomhair captured by the main man @thetylershields,” she captioned the below photo, recognizing the guy behind her cut, Dominick Serna, a stylist The Chris McMillan salon in L.A.

Photographer Shields also shared a series of images on his blog of Willis’s angular chop. The star poses topless in the photos, and reveals that she also has a large section of her head shaved on the back of her neck.

So what inspired the new do? “I’ve been dyeing my hair a lot and it’s been kind of getting trashed at the ends … I just got to a point where I just wanted to cut it all off, kind of start fresh. I think with women, we put so much of our emotional stuff in our hair, and I think sometimes you just want to kind of chop it off and start over,” she tells PEOPLE at Just Jared’s Summer Fiesta.

And as for the blonde: “I started going to see Amber at 901 Salon who did it for me, and I just really like the color. I was going to put blue back on the ends, but it’s just such a great blonde that I just didn’t want to change it!” she says. So, is she having more fun? “You’ll have to come back to me in a couple of months and I’ll tell you,” she says. “I think any color hair, you have more fun as long as you have the right attitude about it.”

What do you think of her new do? Are you a fan? Share your thoughts below.

Love the cut. Think I’ll try it when my layers grow out.

Much better!

It’s a shame the girls got Bruce’s looks and not Demi’s.

LOVE the blonde and cut!! Much more flattering!

I like the color and cut. This poor girl is so unfortunate looking though.

The lip injections actually do look good on her. The haircut is much better too. The nose ring is a snarly booger collector though.

I love the cut! But not on her. Her face is too long for a bob like that, but I do like the color.

She looks adorable. good cut and great colour for her.

she is most unattractive. the last thing she needs is an odd color hair to bring more attention to her face.

Too bad all of Demi’s girls are so unattractive, but this one most of all. I don’t think she could cut her at any style and come out looking good. I don’t know how two not bad looking people, Bruce and Demi, could produce not one but three unattractive offspring. It’s amazing.
