You're Not Going to Believe Why Chrissy Teigen Says She Was Fired from Forever 21

07/14/2014 at 04:53 PM ET

Anyone who follows Chrissy Teigen on Twitter knows she’s very candid and rarely holds anything back. The supermodel stays true to that honest and open philosophy in a new interview with DuJour magazine, where she jokes about her constant “b*tchy resting face,” favorite outfit (“jean shorts, a slouchy shirt & chunky boots … or a towel”) and her least favorite John Legend song (“Green Light“).

Teigen, 28, also reveals a more personal story from her early modeling days — she was fired from Forever 21 over her weight.

Chrissy Teigen DuJour magazine quotes Bryan Bedder/Getty

“They booked me directly when I was much younger. I showed up on set and they asked me if they could take a photo,” she explains in this behind-the-scenes video from her DuJour shoot. “And they shoot that photo off to my agency, who then calls me as I’m sitting in the make-up chair, and they say, ‘You need to leave right now. They just said that you are fat and you need to get your measurements taken.'” (Forever 21 did not respond to requests for comment.)

The star has moved on to become one of the most praised Sports Illustrated models of the decade (nabbing this year’s cover), plus, she’s no stranger to taking a stance against body shaming. And while she’s very open about most things, there are a few topics she likes to keep to herself.

“I really don’t like talking about health, fitness and dieting,” she shared. “That kind of stuff is very private to me, because I feel like when I do end up sharing things like that, maybe it doesn’t work for everybody and everyone has their own opinions. I hold things like that pretty close.”

What do you think of Teigen’s early modeling experience? Are you surprised? Share your thoughts below.

This chick is a serious “bonehead” and I’m seriously starting to question John Legend’s taste in women. This woman is such an over-sharer and she wants to keep mum on diet and exercise? Give me a freaking break! Thank goodness that modeling was her profession of choice, she would not last a minute in the real world😘

she was probably fired cuz she could not understand directions…too dense…

like it is! on

She’s candid which I appreciate. And stunning. People are ignorant, and she had the last laugh!!

I find this difficult to believe if she’s claiming she was young when this occurred. Any exact time frame and her approximate age at the time this occurred? Forever 21 met success in mid 2000’s. Late 90’s/Early 2000’s Fashion 21 (forever 21) was stil the hip boutique in Highland Park, recently expanding and branching out slowly.

In the Honolulu Forever 21 when I went in 2 years ago on holiday they had a mannequin in the window for their curvy clothing section and when I walked up closer inscribed on the leg it said FAT!!! I took a photo because I didn’t quite believe what I had seen……awful, they should be ashamed of themselves :(

I remember being in a Forever 21 in Hawaii and in their curvy clothing section they had a mannequin in the window and inscribed on the leg was the word FAT…..I was mortified, took a photo because I was so shocked. Not cool Forever 21, not cool :(

Stace, I disagree. Forever 21 had 4 locations in Columbus, Ohio when I was in college 2000=2004. If it had made it there, surely it was all over America. I’m several years older than her, too, so her late-teens timeline works.

BRILLIANT! “I really don’t like talking about health, fitness and dieting,” she shared. “That kind of stuff is very private to me, because I feel like when I do end up sharing things like that, maybe it doesn’t work for everybody and everyone has their own opinions. I hold things like that pretty close.”

Stace that’s not right. In the mid 90’s Forever21 was the place to go buy a nice looking yet disposable top that was $10-20. I was in the Bay Area of CA. I know they were also in AZ at that time too as I shopped at both.

Fitness and dieting are very private, but sex on a plane is public? Another odd Teigen comment.
