I have a lot of weddings coming up, as I’m sure many of you do, too — and deciding what to wear isn’t always easy! With this look, I wanted to put together something that was trendy and made me feel confident, but was also totally wedding appropriate.

The Forever 21+ dress is a fit-and-flare cut which looks great on everyone. It’s fitted at the waist and flares out at the hips to give the illusion of an hourglass shape. Plus, it comes in a million (okay, six) different shades if pink is not your color! The Prabal Gurung for Target blazer is the perfect layering piece and is totally essential for outdoor weddings that run into the evening. A structured blazer gives the look of strong shoulders, which I love. I’ve never been self-conscious about my arms, but I know that some plus girls are — a blazer is great for throwing over a sleeveless dress! It’s also a really easy way for anyone to wear white, which can sometimes be a daunting shade for plus-size girls. The fabric is structured, so it won’t cling and show every nook and cranny.

Neutral pumps are seriously a girl’s best friend. They go with everything and make my legs look longer! This pair from Cole Haan is really close to my skin tone, so it has an instant lengthening effect. My “Off We Go” clutch by Kate Spade adds a playful pop to the outfit. The bag is designed to look like a license plate (from California, my home state!). I finished with a bold gold necklace I got as a hand-me-down. It’s simple and polished, but still makes a statement.

Picking an outfit for a wedding doesn’t have to be a stressful situation — the key is finding pieces that are appropriate and that make you feel your best.

THRILLED that the other 50% of the female population is being acknowledged on your style pages, but that jacket doesn’t come in true plus sizes and is not available in stores or online anymore except at inflated re-seller prices, so why would you feature it? I love the outfit, but if the column’s goal is affordable plus fashion, it’s kindof important to feature actual plus-size clothing… How ’bout choosing a blazer from ASOS Curve, the unfortunately-named, recently-relaunched Eloquii, or H&M+ ?

@bec215 Hi! Thanks for the feedback! I apologize that the jacket isn’t available anymore–it was available originally up to a size XL/16, which I totally get isn’t “true plus size”. It works on my size 18 frame though, so I thought it would be cute to share, at the very least to give an outfit idea that could be reworked using pieces already in your closet.

All the looks I style come straight from my own closet, not from People StyleWatch, so all pieces were purchased by me and accumulated over time (which means several of the items are past season), and include both pieces from plus size ranges (I think 75% of my wardrobe is from ASOS Curve, lol) as well as from straight size stores that I’ve “made work” for my size 18 frame. Additionally, several of the looks I’ve featured have come from the brands you listed, including ASOS Curve and Eloquii (which I LOVE post-relaunch!).

I think it would be great to start including links to similar items when something isn’t available anymore or doesn’t come from a plus size collection, though! It’s something I do on my blog and I hope that we can do the same on this column! Thanks again for the feedback–always trying to improve! Just wanted to say that you look so pretty in the outfit. Great colors for your skin tone and hair, it’s a young and stylish outfit for a wedding that is also
classy and appropriate. Shoes are perfect.
