Curvy Girl Chic's Allison Teng: You Can Still Stand Out in Dark Colors!
Welcome Allison Teng, 26, of Curvy Girl Chic, who is joining us as our resident plus-size style blogger. She was featured in the March issue of PEOPLE StyleWatch and will be contributing regularly to the site. This week, she proves that wearing all black doesn’t have to mean your outfit has to be boring.

Sometimes, plus girls lean toward darker colors because of the notion that they’re slimming. While I think there is truth to the figure-flattery effect, wearing dark shades doesn’t mean you have to fade into the background. At the end of the day, it’s not all about looking thinner — it’s about wearing something you really like, that feels trendy and cool. With this look, I wanted to put something together that’s darker, but still makes a statement.
The Eloquii top has a longer flared peplum that hits at my natural waist and flows nicely over my curves. And, as you all probably know by now, I’m obsessed with moto jackets — they’re a total cool-girl go-to piece that can amplify any look. I like that this jacket from Gap is cropped. With the longer top, it lends a flattering proportion to the outfit.
Plus girls: Don’t be afraid of skinny jeans! This pair from Torrid is my absolute fave. They’re called the “Torrid Ankle Zip Stiletto Jean” in Dark Wash and they have literally looked amazing on every single person I’ve seen wearing them. The cut and the stretch are perfect. I added classic black pumps by INC International Concepts to keep the look streamlined. The sunglasses give definite edge and the Phillip Lim for Target bag is sleek and functional. The result is a super versatile look (I would wear it out at night or with ballet flats for running errands!) that feels chic and oh-so-stylish.
