Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Snake-Inspired Jewelry, Lace on Lace and a Heel That Needs To Keep Walking

In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we saw serpent statement pieces, lovely, lacy looks and a shoe fabric that’s lost its shine.
Up: Snake-inspired jewelry. Though we aren’t the biggest fans of the actual reptile, this trend has us seeing the animal in a whole different light. From the front, Naomi Watts’s Bulgari necklace (left) looks like a simple silver chain encrusted with diamonds, but when she turns around, we see a head grabbing a gem-studded tail. The style has also slithered to other parts of the body: Dakota Fanning has donned a pair of wrapped bracelets and there’s a serpent lurking among the many rings of Jessica Alba. (But no one has topped Sophia Bush’s spooky snake ear cuff from a few weeks ago!)
Up: Lace on Lace. Normally the only times our delicates mix are in the wash, but now it seems they’re getting together outside of the Laundromat. Style Council member Ashley Madekwe (center) looks like a chic Valentine in her pink blouse and red midi skirt (both Monique Lhuillier). Coco Rocha also rocks this trend in her Roberto Cavalli tuxedo, giving her menswear-inspired ensemble a feminine twist. Now that we know our leading ladies can wear lace tops and bottoms without looking like their grandmother’s tablecloth, we can be sure we will be seeing more outfits just like this very soon.
Down: Satin Pumps. Since the weather is finally allowing us to bring out our summer shoes (yes!), there seems to be a fabric on the red carpet that’s losing its cool. Maria Menounos (right) chooses a pair of yellow satin pumps, but her selection feels a bit off-trend considering that the rest of our celebs have taken out their strappy sandals for the warmer temperatures. Maybe it’s time to put these bad boys away until fall rolls back around.
