Katy Perry's Prismatic Tour Style: All the Scoop on Her 'Firework' Dress and Other Bold Stage Designs
Katy Perry is busy globe-trotting on her Prismatic World Tour, and of course she’s taking the stage in a number of other-wordly ensembles. These looks totally blow her infamous cupcake bra out of the water. Don’t believe us? We rounded up six of her most head-turning tour outfits — so far — to prove it.
Let’s begin with Perry’s most outlandish costume: a Todd Thomas design that’s part ball gown, part jumpsuit and a whole lot of color. The singer looks like a human firework (get it?) in the eye-cathing ensemble.
Next, Perry does her best modern-day Cleopatra in a custom Fausto Puglisi look featuring a lilac-and-gold crystal embroidered leotard, fringe gladiator skirt, and over-the-knee boots.
“I am so happy to be a part of this larger-than-life creative adventure,” Puglisi said of his signature design. “Katy is a modern pop warrior — fearless, independent and so colorful. I was inspired to reference my love for Hollywood magic, and passion for freedom and self-expression to create a Cleopatra dream.”
In the third photo above, the singer pays homage to her alter ego “Kitty Purry” in a pink cheetah print jumpsuit (by The Blonds NY) complete with a tail and styled with a cat ear topper and pink ankle booties.
“katycats you’re gonna lose ur mind for the CAT-OUR section of the show…,” she shared on Instagram along with the sketch of her look.
Continuing to one-up herself, Perry’s black-and-white yin-yang design is probably the most voluminous of all the looks she has on rotation. We highly recommend watching this video to see it in action.
Next up, her garden-inspired Valentino gown, complete with a butterfly cape, is the most romantic look of the tour. Seriously, it’s a stark contrast to her smiley face bustier and peace sign leggings (last photo) courtesy of her good pal at Moschino, creative director Jeremy Scott. Plus, the Ray-Ban original Wayfarers give the whole look an effortlessly cool vibe.
And lastly we have to talk about her crystal-and-fringe-embellished jumpsuit by Paris-based designer Alexis Mabille. When we saw this look on Perry’s Instagram feed (see photo below), we had to get the details straight from Mabille.
“She’s cool because she loves color, she’s open minded, and she’s really a show girl,” Mabille told PEOPLE of collaborating with Perry on her “Firework” dress. “She loves going far away and has very strong views. She loves fashion, she really plays the game of being a woman.”
So what was the inspiration behind it? “It was this idea of the vintage fringe from the ’20s,” the designer explained. “It looked like a ray of light or a painting color of the body, red, blue, black, diamond and golden. It was the Hollywood effect mixed with modern art to give this like firework effect. I was thinking we have to create a jumpsuit, which was like an expression of the firework. With bead, but it’s very comfortable very close to the body, like second skin.”
As for Perry’s ability to move and dance in the design, Mabille said it’s easier than it looks, because of the stretchy material. “Even if a piece is heavy, when it’s close to your body — all around your body — you don’t feel the weight. If you hold it its heavy, but when you wear it it’s normal.”
