Why Did Jessica Seinfeld Go Blonde? 'Why Not?'
Change is good. Just ask Jessica Seinfeld. Last week, the longtime brunette debuted her new blonde pixie on Instagram, saying, “You can never be too old or too brunette to be blonde.”
When PEOPLE caught up with her this week at the premiere of HBO’s The Normal Heart in Manhattan, we had to ask: Why did she go blonde?
“Everyone is asking me why — and basically, ‘Why not?'” said Seinfeld, 42, who is married to comedian Jerry Seinfeld, 60. “I have no attachments to anything physically,” she continued. “My husband always says, ‘I wish you were more materialistic.’ I just have no attachments (to things) so I don’t care. If I hate my hair, it will grow.”
In December, the mother of three swapped out a longer bob for an edgy pixie cut. Last week, her colorist, Sarah Spratt, continued Seinfeld’s transformation, working with New York City stylist Rheanne White to make her cut — with its rock-and-roll vibe — match the color.
“I’m impulsive and it’s good to be impulsive about things that don’t matter too much,” she said.
And while plenty of people have weighed in on her new look, those who really matter in her life — her children, Sascha, 13, Julian, 11, and Shepherd, 8, and her husband of 14 years — gave her their stamp of approval.
“The kids loved it,” she shared. “And my husband loved it, which is really nice. I think it took a little bit of getting used to” — for her and for others (including this reporter!) who have done a double-take when they have see her in the last week. “I am unrecognizable, which I love! That is fun.”
