All About Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning's Good Vs. Evil Red Carpet Reign
To promote the latest Disney feature Maleficent, Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning have been stepping out in lovely dresses, but they’re also punctuating their looks with touches reminiscent of their characters — Fanning as Princess Aurora, and Jolie as Maleficent, the evil fairy. Which has us thinking: Could taking your on-screen personas to the red carpet be a trend? (Imagine Jennifer Lawrence showing up to the X-Men premiere in something blue and scaly?) Regardless, Jolie and Fanning have commanded everyone’s attention, so we decided to recap their globe-trotting fashion parade so far.

PARIS: Jolie took a sleek simple approach (for which she has become synonymous on the red carpet), selecting a basic black bustier and pants from Ralph Lauren. Her shoes, however, made a statement. The black Christian Louboutin stunners were custom made for Jolie by the designer, and boast an insane thorny heel, mimicking both Maleficent’s signature headpiece and the wall of thorns from the film.
LONDON RECEPTION: For her most formal look so far on the tour, Jolie wore yet another Atelier Versace dress (her go-to designer for formal occasions — see here, here and here), this one dripping in Swarovksi crystals and complete with pointy sleeves that read more ominous than an Olympic ice skater. She wore her hair up for the first time during this series of promotions, which showed off the deep V back of the custom gown.
LONDON PHOTO CALL: The actress has said of her character, “She has a wicked sense of fun.” If you ask any shoe maven, nothing is more fun than having your signature shoes in both black and white. This definitely wicked white version of the Louboutin shoe allowed for a little more creepy detail on the heel — there’s blood dripping down it! For even more of a sinister, but still elegant feel, the ravens on her Atelier Versace dress were hand painted by the film’s costume designer, Anna Munro.

PARIS: The actress chose an army green A-line split-front Valentino dress and left her hair down in a classic loose blowout. The simplicity of this look all leads to Fanning’s feet: She’s wearing pumps made by the princess of whimsy fashion herself, Charlotte Olympia. These “Sleeping Beauty” heels were the perfect complement to her solid, basic (but of course impeccably tailored) dress. Anything more embellished or patterned would’ve made the look go from classy to costume. And if you were wondering whether Fanning received custom shoes like Jolie, it doesn’t look that way — the shoe comes from Olympia’s Fall 2013 line. And they’re already sold out.
LONDON RECEPTION: Talk about a princess! Fanning floated across the carpet in an ethereal embroidered Georges Hobeika gown — complete with a floral crown. Since a headpiece like that needs no accessories (someone break that news to the queens of Coachella), she chose to forgo any statement jewelry. And her barely-there rosy blush and eyeshadow complemented the peach feather-edge ribbon hanging from the back of her hairpiece.
LONDON PHOTO CALL: This time, Fanning put the focus on her skirt rather than her shoes. The eye is immediately drawn to the front ruffle detail courtesy of London-by-way-of-Australia designer Kym Ellery, who also designed her (thank God!) age-appropriate crop top.
Now we have to ask: Which look is your favorite for each actress? Should stars dress like their characters on the red carpet? Sound off in the comments!
