Welcome Allison Teng, 26, of Curvy Girl Chic, who is joining us as our resident plus-size style blogger. She was featured in the March issue of PEOPLE StyleWatch and will be contributing regularly to the site. This week, she’s all about finding a pair of pants that works for her.

I’ve never been a fan of pants. Actually, I’ve never been a fan of plus-size pants. Designers seem to think that if you’re a size 14 or above, you must have big hips and an hourglass figure. Of course, plus-size women’s bodies vary as much as everyone else’s. I actually have a smaller lower body and a thicker waist — more of an “apple” shape — so put me in your average pair of plus-size pants and it’s instant baggy-crotch syndrome!

That’s why I love these ASOS pants. They have an elastic waistband that doesn’t pinch my middle, the hips are roomy but not baggy, and the laser-cut faux leather looks totally awesome. This is my second pair of pants from ASOS — a record for me, and one of many reasons I’d recommend checking out the brand if you haven’t already. These pants are as comfortable as sweats but with way more attitude, especially when you pair them with heels.

I added a chambray button-down to keep the look simple. It’s one of my key wardrobe pieces; it’s dressier than a T-shirt, but with rolled-up sleeves, it’s casual enough to pair with weekend basics. If you have a larger chest like I do, undoing the top few buttons is a great way to lengthen your neckline. The finishing touches: an oversized scarf to ward off the chill after the sun goes down, and my bright red 3.1 Phillip Lim bag. It’s my go-to for days when I need to carry my entire world around with me!

What’s the one piece you can’t find anywhere? What’s your trick to finding things to fit you perfectly?
