Royal Tour Style Update: Kate's Tory Burch Dress Sells Out Within Hours

The Kate Effect strikes again! The dress worn by the Duchess of Cambridge during her appearance at the first event on the Royal Tour has already sold out.

Kate selected the Tory Burch “Paulina” dress when she, Prince William and Prince George paid a visit to Wellington’s Government House to meet with new mothers and their babies at an event for the Plunket Society. Though many had predicted that Kate — an ambassador for British fashion who often wears clothes made by designers from the country she’s visiting — would wear something from an Antipodean label, the Duchess instead chose a graphic-print, fringed-hem knit dress by American designer Tory Burch.

Even before news agencies began posting photos from the event, royal fashion followers took to Twitter to share retail details on the dress, which is from Burch’s Resort 2014 collection. Within minutes came reports that the dress was selling out fast at luxury shopping site netaporter.com.

By 6:30 EST only sizes XS and XL were still available on the designer’s website, where it was on sale for $237 (original price: $450). Minutes later, the remaining inventory had been snapped up.

This isn’t the first time Kate has caused a fashion frenzy. Everything from the Issa dress she wore for her engagement announcement to her trusty L.K. Bennett nude pumps have become instant must-haves. Fortunately for legions of “Copy Kates,” dozens of Duchess wardrobe changes lay ahead in the coming days.

What do you think of Kate’s latest look? Are you surprised she chose an American designer? Share your thoughts below!

She looks frumpy.

I think it is so silly to be spending hundreds of dollars on a dress because Kate wore it!

Most of these women probably would not have taken a second look at it in the store, but because Kate has it, they must have it too!
Also there is not creativity when people copy her entire outfits.

Really? Do people actually buy clothes just because this woman wore the same outfit???? That is ridiculous. People need to get lives of their own.

How is this frumpy? Because she is elegant, classy and appropriately dressed!!! She can’t dress sexy or like a tranny. Not sure what you expect.

If women need to follow the fashion style of someone famous, there are worse choices. Kate always looks appropriate, put-together, strong yet feminine, and very pretty. She can make even jeans and a striped tee look like high fashion. I would be thrilled for my daughters to pattern themselves after her.

Who cares about the dress… Look at Prince George in his knicker jumpsuit!

sorry that is one ugly dress. Not even if Kate wore it or not

Kate does not look frumpy. The one who does is that woman on the right in the blue top and the pants that look like sweats.

Didn’t look that nice on her, wouldn’t wear it

It looks ok on her but it isn’t my style. I would buy it just because Kate wore it.
