Lorde Celebrates Her 'Flaws' On Instagram, Posting Un-retouched Photo That Shows Her Skin

If you needed more proof that Lorde isn’t your average teen (if, say, the multiple Grammys and MAC collaboration weren’t enough), here it is: The “Royals” singer just posted a photo of herself that shows her skin, both Photoshopped and as it actually is, while slamming the retouching in a sweet message to her fans.

“i find this curious – two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-),” she captioned the picture, which shows one performance photo with her skin blurred to a smooth finish and another without any extra production.

PHOTOS: See gorgeous star style from every angle!

Lorde is the latest star to reject overly retouched photos of herself. Shailene Woodley recently shared that she hates the way magazines make her look like something she’s not, while lots of stars are posting no makeup selfies to Instagram. Lorde, however, has gone even a step further than that, posting a selfie with her acne cream on.

We totally support the star’s real approach and positive message to her fans. Though we’d hardly call her skin “flawed,” we love the statement she’s making. What do you think of Lorde’s campaign to stay real?

Good for her and what a positive role model for girls! The magazines retouch the photos beyond recognition as girls are supposed to attain this false reality of body image. I applaud her!

Good for her. These retouched photos have gotten out of control with celebrities. I don’t know how much pressure guys feel about how they look, but it’s emotionally damaging when girls (and women) often compare themselves to these images and can’t measure up! Obviously these celebrities also can’t measure up to their photoshopped, flawless images either. Thanks to people like Lorde, Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet for speaking out.

Crazy beautiful . . . crazy talented. Kudos!

This story made me cry. Thinking of all the girls out there who are feeling badly about themselves because they don’t have perfect skin (I didn’t) and now this lovely, talented person steps up and says, “Hey, flaws are OK!” Love this…..love Lorde!!!

Wow, she is above awesome for doing this. I wish she had been around when my daughter and her friends were teenagers, or, for that matter, when I was one. What a good message to send out there!

I love the photo untouched. It sends a very positive statement to others.

Reality Check on

I love it! Celebrities are so fake with all the photoshopping on photos to make them shed pounds or look flawless. PR people write their speeches to make them sound caring and intelligent when in reality most of them could care less. They only care about their popularity and money. Way to go Lorde for keeping it real and not lip synching your music. People like Jennifer Lopez, Madonna or Beyoncé could learn a few things from you!
