Gwyneth Paltrow: 'I'm 41, So I Need to Be a Girl and Deal With Products'

We like to think of Gwyneth Paltrow as our own personal lifestyle guru. From her bold crop top-wearing skills to her crazy cleanses to those GOOP newsletters (yes, we subscribe!), the actress is everywhere (including in our head as we get ready). So it’s no surprise Restorsea tapped Paltrow as the new face of their skincare line. (After all, she did nab PEOPLE’s World’s Most Beautiful woman title.)

What are her secrets to a flawless complexion? “I try to always cleanse my skin and moisturize at night. I’ve gotten a lot better at it,” she tells PEOPLE. “I used to just wash my face with a wash cloth and water. But now I’m 41, so I need to be a girl and deal with products and put them on and stuff. I still think a hot wash cloth is a really good exfoliator, and I still use it. But I put a cleanser on first. Exfoliation is super important. A hot wash cloth and good scrub.”

Paltrow said she made sure to try out Restorsea’s products for six weeks before committing to the brand. “Because of my website, I get sent things all the time, so I don’t necessarily get very excited about many things. I really loved how this smelled and felt,” she says. “So that’s what drew me to keep using it. Then I saw a real change in my skin. When they approached me, I thought this was fantastic.”

And while the busy mom of two is now a devotee to a real skincare regimen, she maintains that her top beauty tip is making sure to exercise: “If you have a good sweat everyday it’s so detoxifying and good for your skin tone.”

When it comes to her makeup mantra, Paltrow’s all about a pretty basic palette and always has Max Factor mascara (“It works better than really expensive ones”) on hand. One beauty trend she’s not a fan of: the return of brown lipstick. “I think as you grow into yourself you know what works for you. So you don’t really follow trends like you do when you’re 20. Brown lipstick, I don’t think I’ll be bringing that back.”

The ’90s will be making a comeback in the Paltrow household via her overalls collection. “I love overalls. I never stopped wearing overalls,” she said. Another warm-weather wardrobe staple? “I’m excited to just wear sandals. I’m not a wedge person, I’m sort of into ‘Man Repeller’ shoes at the moment. Ugly-chic sandals for summer.”

$150? Um no.

Is it really possible to not have one wrinkle at age 41? She doesn’t have a wrinkle on her forehead, between her brows, above her lips, even crows feet. I have a lot of fabulous looking forty-something friends, and every single one of them has a wrinkle here or there — unless they are doing botox or some other filler. It’s hard to believe she’s part of that “look amazing or your out of a job” culture and doesn’t partake in anything more than a hot washcloth and maybelline mascara.

I share a birthdate with Gwyneth and so I am 41 also. I use natural line Derma-E, plus a vitamin C serum, and exfoliate regularly. I have a great complexion with two tiny wrinkles between my eyes and thats it. No crows feet. I have to thank genetics. And I know they’re coming, but I just wanted to say, yes, it is possible to be 41 with great skin.

@okeydokey, that photo has been Photoshopped and they’re using a soft filter. It hides a world of sin. Radar Online had a real picture of her in the last couple of days.

Love Gwyneth! She’s beautiful.

Does she have a friend working at People or what? You’re always doing articles to promote her. She really is not that interesting

I don’t want to hear anything about her or her routines. She’s in love with herself.

Makeup for film & television is generally very heavy, so I have a hard time believing that she’s new to proper cleansers. I think that’s a bit of a fib, but that’s Hollywood types for you. And they love those advertising paychecks- actresses will hawk any beauty products that pay enough, and she would say the same thing about Wet & Wild or any other brand that paid. Ladies, don’t think you have to pay top dollar for quality beauty products! Most good drugstore brands have all the same ingredients and benefits so use what you love!

this is an airbrushed magazine photo; certainly nothing candid here.

If you see other pictures of her, she has A LOT of wrinkles, more like lines etched into her skin, forehead, etc. She is pale, with blue eyes, and light hair, I’m sure her skin is naturally dry, which doesn’t age well.

I disagree with Gwyneths advice.

It’s easy to be beautiful when you have the money and have a team of beauty experts.

Whatever happened to washing your face with soap and water, and living a clean lifestyle.

@ Okeydokey that photo is photoshopped to the nth degree. Google snapshots, the woman is quite wrinkled…

Call me when you hit 51.

I think it’s fair to say one of her beauty secrets is NOT putting make-up all the time. She often goes out make-up-free, and usually when she does put on make-up other than red carpet events, it’s just a lipstick and a mascara. Make-up fastens aging by exhausting your skin. We can (and should) follow her minimum or no make-up habit if we want our skin to stay healthy :)

I agree with everybody about photoshop and how she has real wrinkles and crows feet especially, in other photos.

This woman is just so full of herself how can anyone take this company seriously.

With her coloring there is zero chance she has no aging by now. She’s just tasteful with her fillers and photos !

This picture is definitely airbrushed, I’ve seen other pictures that show her with wrinkles and other signs of aging and that is normal! That’s a normal part of the aging process..while I think she does have access to procedures/products that the average woman doesn’t, I also think she tries to live a healthy lifestyle, exercise and generally take care of herself and that is something the average woman can certainly do regardless of income…The key is to live the healthiest way possible that you are able to do…

Why must we photoshop to the extreme? It just makes this article seem like joke.
