Hayley Hasselhoff on the Perks of Being a Plus-Size Model - and the Best Ways to Dress For Your Shape
Hayley Hasselhoff, 21, may have first attracted attention as David Hasselhoff’s daughter, but she’s turned her stint on The Hasselhoffs into a busy, successful career as a plus-size model. The L.A. native (and self-proclaimed “adrenaline junkie”) was one of the most visible models during February’s British Plus Size Fashion Week, walking in 13 of the 16 shows — and has just been named the ambassador for Pulp Fashion Week in Paris. And now she’s bringing her style know-how to the PEOPLE.com hot seat, dishing on her life behind-the-scenes and giving tips on how to dress for your figure.
First things first, she wants to clear up a common misconception about girls working in her industry. “People have this conception of plus size models as girls who aren’t fit or don’t work out or don’t really take care of their bodies,” she says, noting that though there’s no one-size-fits-all definition of a plus-size model, they “are probably the most toned and fit models you’ll see on the runway because they’re so body conscious.”
She also notes that she’s annoyed by the fashion advice in many magazines for curvier girls, saying it’s too generic for the many different shapes and sizes you’ll find. “I’ve never worn plus size brands and I never had to because I found what worked for my body type. So my advice is to find what works for you,” she says. “Find what makes you feel comfortable. The confidence you wear your clothes in is what’s really going to shine.”
