Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Are Nominated For a CFDA Award! Brush Up On Your Olsen Style Smarts Here

With the recent announcement of the nominees for this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, it came to no surprise that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were selected (again) for one of the categories. The two took home the prize for Best Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2012 and are now nominated for Accessories Designer of the Year for their line The Row. They join a group of nominees that includes contenders Alexander Wang for his own collection and Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough for Proenza Schouler.

While the twins’ “bohemian bourgeois” style has been popular essentially since the they graduated from Full House we managed to pull together a few facts that you may not know about your favorite designing duo.

Their line Elizabeth and James is not named after their siblings. Though the dynamic duo does have a sister named Elizabeth and a brother name James (who goes by Trent), the theme of the clothing line comes from a relationship between their two fictional characters and is expressed through style.

The two modeled for Badgley Mischka in 2006. Both girls starred in the brand’s fall advertising campaign wearing couture gowns and were shot by photographer Gilles Bensimon. “Ashley and Mary-Kate have grown up to become America’s young style icons,” the fashion house said in a statement. “They have an amazing sense of fashion and individuality that intrigued us.”

While on Full House, the twins wore Marc Jacobs and Chanel. Yes, seriously.

They have a line called “Olsenboye” at JC Penney. If you’re not on a The Row budget, you can check out their diffusion line — we’re totally considering getting these strappy sandals.

Their first fashion line was sold at Walmart. Yes you read that correctly: Walmart. The fashionistas’ collection included everything from sportswear to eyewear and grossed more than $400 million in sales in 2003.

Across the ocean, they have a collection with Norwegian retailer Bik Bok. In 2013, the Olsens launched a very Scandinavian-grunge new collection that’s awesome in every way but one: they only ship to Norway and Sweden. (But the pieces are so affordable you can almost justify the flight!)
