Katie Holmes Speaks Out About Holmes & Yang Ending: 'I'm Concentrating on Acting and Motherhood'

Katie Holmes Holmes & YangSplash News Online

Many fashionistas were surprised to hear of the sudden demise of Holmes & Yang, Katie Holmes’s five-year-old clothing line with her stylist Jeanne Yang. Despite the line’s increasingly high profile, landing high-fashion spreads and and a spot at New York Fashion Week, the split had apparently been a long time coming.

At the time, insiders speculated about the reason Holmes and Yang ended their partnership, but the two key players were staying silent. Now, Holmes has spoken to Elle UK about the split. “I loved every minute of my time working on Holmes & Yang. I remain passionate about the design aesthetic we created, and am so happy with what Jeanne and I accomplished,” she said. “However I am now concentrating on acting and motherhood, which did not leave the label the time and attention it deserved. I’m really thrilled that the final showcase for Holmes & Yang is in Elle — I had a blast at my shoot for the magazine. It is fantastic to feel like it’s ending on a high.”

Yang declined to comment to PEOPLE, but last week, a source shared some insight with us. “They have different approaches to absolutely everything: how to run the company, how to promote it and how to handle the press,” the source said. “The conflict isn’t about any one thing, it’s sort of about everything.”

What do you think of Holmes’s explanation? Are you sorry to see Holmes & Yang go?

Let’s hope she is a better mother than actress.

Hate to say it but she probably had a better chance with the fashion line than acting. I know it’s mean to say, but it just seems like it would’ve been wise to keep on with the fashion line since she was already successful with that.

Holmes’ explanation was classy; Yang’s ‘source’ explanation was not.

Kate on

‘Cause she herself has awful style sense and her clothing line sucked?

What about it just wasn’t profitable….

FWIW to poster below “An opinion” Holmes’ explanation my seem more classy, yet I expect that Yang’s source is probably more accurate. You don’t end a good thing for the bs reason she gave…playing the mother card to lessen the criticism

I always wondered if Tom financially backed the company and when they parted, his support stopped, which led to closing the line. Stars have many business ventures going on at once, I don’t believe Katie’s excuse. If it was profitable and viable, it would continue.

I’m sure Katie is a very kind person and mother, and kudos to her for leaving what looked like a sad and stifling situation when she was married to Tom. However, she to me has always been nothing but a beautiful face. She looked great in the Bobbi Brown ads, etc. that seemed to be her thing, but the girl can’t act, or sing, and due to the negative reviews from her fashion line, doesn’t know fashion either. I think people WANT to compare her to Nicole Kidman and WANTED her to rise out of the bad marriage ashes like a Phoenix and dominate Hollywood and win an Oscar, but that would require having an innate natural talent like Nicole does. I’m sorry but Katie just doesn’t have that. She can try all she wants which is a lot more than most of us can say, but no matter what role she attempts or song/dance routine she does, she just doesn’t have it. She was cute on Dawson’s Creek, but to have a long career in this business or any business you have to challenge yourself and have the skills to back it up.

Just from what I saw, it wasn’t a good line and was overpriced. I think while some may call Katie’s statement ‘classy’, I think it’s just a smoke screen and I am inclined to go with Yang’s “source”. You don’t walk away if it’s a great line and you have a great partnership. The fact that Yang isn’t coming forward and backing up Katie speaks volumes. If I were Katie, I’d have stuck with motherhood and clothing line, I’m not a fan of her ‘acting’.

To those saying other celeb’s do numerous things, do you actually know if they are involved in everything they have their name on? Who cares why she quit it. It is her choice to do.
