Checked the closeup link and WOW — it is absolutely stunning. I thought it was a bit too ’50’s looking for my taste but when you see the closeup photo it’s just gorgeous — very pretty and solid-looking at the same time…yum!

OH MY GOSH I love it, I didnt think that I did from another pic, but up close, it IS stunning!!!

Heather on

Do these two ever really smile? I don’t think I’ve seen a picture with a full smile on either of their faces ever.

SS on

Thought I wouldn’t like it from the few pics I saw before, because it looked really chunky. But after clicking on the Sotheby’s link I am totally a fan. It is really stunning!

Tanya on

It’s stunning! Congrats

So classy. Leave it to the French to have the most fabulous taste!

Can’t at least one person get engaged without someone (People magazine) describing as putting a ring on it??? Life isn’t a Beyonce song.It just sounds like something some should say after someone gets knocked up and decides on a shotgun wedding. Anyone with class, elegance or maturity would hate to have their engagement described as such. She’s dainty and beautiful and her engagement announcement shouldn’t sound like she’s getting hitched at the trailer park. Congratulations Mary Kate and Olivier.

This ring is the prettiest ring I have seen in a long time. I think it suits her well because she and her sister are into that vintage, boho style. I also like how it is two different stones diamonds and saphires. I have an all diamond 3 stone engagement ring and my wedding bands are rubies (my husbands birthstone).

That guy she’s marrying is so creepy …. good luck, honey … you’ll need it.

Every time I see these girls all I can think is how lost they look. They both have this haunted look in their eyes, they’re so very thin and waif-like and I’ve hardly ever seen a picture of them looking happy as young adults. When I saw she was with this significantly older man, I thought to myself “Poor girl finally found herself a father-figure to take care of and protect her.” This is the product of working kids to death in Hollywood and never letting them have a childhood with any semblance of normality. Their parents made them rich…and miserable. Poor trade off.

OMG I love the ring! Like other posters, wasn’t sure at first but these pictures do it justice. I also think it’s timeless in a way that the more modern, huge diamonds (a la KK) are not.
I really wish these two the best. They are both extremely successful and probably found a partner that understands them. I also hope they take plenty of time for play! Congrats to the lovely couple!

I love this ring take note over the top buyers yes I mean you trashdashians this is what classy looks like

lg on

Wow, it’s beautiful, so different. I wish them the best of luck.

this is a beautiful ring I am glad she took her time shows a real maturity and I am happy to see something simple and not over the top 52 carats like some trying so hard to prove they love each other, and yes I am talking to you trashdasians. I wish them well.

Sloane on

a unique and beautiful ring to be sure, and anything bigger with a larger carat weight (even though it was easily affordable) would not have suited her hand because she is a rather petit woman… so it is rather a perfect ring for her in all aspects!

KK on

She has a sister named “Elizabeth”? Did they mean “Ashley”? Beautiful ring, too.

Hot on

I think the 50s represents the decade the groom was born.

Hmmm... on

It does look better on the Sotheby’s site than those fuzzy close-ups of her wearing it, but I’m still not a huge fan. But… it’s not my ring! :) I’m glad it isn’t.

I love it and the idea of vintage. But funny, I don’t think of 1953 as vintage but I guess it is. I love vintage so much my engagement ring/Edwardian, wedding band/art deco and anniversary band/art deco are all vintage. My favorite is Art Deco.

An example of how love is blond…I mean blind. A 60 year old ring, a 50 year old groom and a 20 year old bride. The age difference would not be such a big deal if she didn’t look 12 and he wasn’t wrinkly and soft looking.

Anna on

I just can’t bring myself to like this ring! Then again, I am not the one wearing it. :)

Robin on

In response to KK, Hot, and H: Elizabeth is another sister of the Olsen twins. Elizabeth is an up and coming actress; I’m surprised you’ve never heard of her. Oliver is only 44 yrs. old, not fifty or older! That means he was born around 1969, not the 1950’s! Also, one of you mentioned that he’s fifty and MK is twenty. You’re way off! He’s 44 and she’s 27. While it’s a 16 or 17 yr. age gap, depending on when their birthdays fall, it’s hardly a difference of 30 yrs. Get your facts straight and stop being so catty! Congrats to the happy couple!!!

Alex Apatoff: the photo you used for this article on the home page is of her sister Ashley.

Very lovely ring!
Man, I feel old! I remember when they were cute lil tots. Best wishes!

guest on

Sorry, but it looks like it came from a Cracker Jack box. No, they never smile.

Sunburn on

It’s a beautiful ring but I think it’s in very poor taste to tell us what he paid for it!!!!!!!!!

They probably hate paparazzi

Ugly ring and a damn creepy pedafile looking husband to be…eww!

Teknosbeka on

Good lord, that ring is bigger than she is!

Sheryl on

The ring could have cost so much more, in relation to both of their incomes. I like the fact that it’s vintage, didn’t cost in the millions and is very unique. Kudos!

Amaryllis on

Not a fan of yellow gold, but it is a nice ring.

flixgirl on

WOW! Couldn’t really form any kind of opinion when I saw blurry pictures of it. Then I looked at the picture on Sotheby’s website, and I love it! A bit unusual, but gorgeous!

PEOPLE: The picture you used on the front page to get to this article is ASHLEY. Come on now!

Charlotte on

Wowie kazowie! I would love to have THAT ring. Stunning and outstanding. I wish they had shown a pic of her guy.

ann kramer on

I the other pictures I have seen it looked like the diamond was just surrounded by gold and looked weird. The close up pictures are finally showing its true beauty. It is a lot more delicate than it looked in other photos and I like it very much. I would have it sized down though the size ring makes it sit too far off her finger

money on

his preteen daughter is bigger than mary-kate.

what does she have in common with an old smelly frenchman?

Catrina on

Just seen a photo with Mary-Kate, the boyfriend, and his daughter where she appears to be smoking, call me slow because I saw that photo and the first thought that came to mind was “wow his daughter id very young to be smoking” even though I read the description Mary-Kate out with boyfriend and daughter.

toni Anderson on

Love the ring. Gorgeous!

Judy on

I think that Mary-Kate Olsen’s engagement ring is STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS!! It’s breathtaking! I hope that they will be a happy couple, always.

I think Mary-Kate Olsen’s engagement ring is STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS!! What an absolutely beautiful treasure to have! I hope they will be happy together always.

SarahSweets on

The closeup is worth the click! I don’t personally dig the 50’s era vintage for myself, but it suits MK well – lucky girl!
