Some major hair happenings are going on in Hollywood, and naturally, we’re buzzing about them. So we decided to round up some of our favorites. First on the list, Nicole Richie’s purple — yes, purple! — hair!

The star debuted a lavender hue on her Instagram feed Monday, similar to the shade Kelly Osbourne has been sporting. And while the look doesn’t appear to be a wig, we think Richie’s hair change is probably a sneak peek from a photo shoot. We also think the risk-taker can totally pull it off, and if she stays violet, we can’t wait to see how she wears it.

Next up, Lupita Nyong’o captivated our attention once again in a plunging burnt-orange Givenchy gown at the NAACP Image Awards Saturday. She also sported a new (for her) do, a center-parted look with lots of volume that echoed the fierce vibe of the dress.

“The look was different for Lupita — her leather dress inspired the rebellious and bold hairstyle that I created for her,” celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims tells PEOPLE. “The plunging neckline inspired the middle part, which worked cohesively with your eyeline when looking at her.”

At first we thought extensions were used to create that dome shape, but turns out that’s all Nyong’o’s real hair. Sims used a comb attachment on the blow dryer to create the volume, then “shaved down the sides to mold the dramatic shape.”

Lastly, Kerry Washington‘s messy French braid has just topped the list of looks we need to try immediately. From the volume on top to the fun texture, it’s the perfect style to wear throughout spring and summer. What do you think? Which look is your favorite? Do any miss the mark?
