Rihanna to Vogue: I Get My Jewelry from Claire's and Shop In the Men's Department
There aren’t many stars these days about whom top designers might say, “She’s a very talented dresser” — as Pucci’s Peter Dundas does about Rihanna in March’s Vogue cover story about the megastar. In fact, we don’t know who else could garner effusive style praise from designers as wide-ranging as Alexander Wang (“There is no one else that excites me more”) to Tom Ford (of her style: “It’s everything pop culture needs to move forward.”). But that’s why she’s become a style icon in her own right — and why she’s gracing the fashion magazine for the third time.
And it’s also why it’s so great that Rihanna doesn’t take her style seriously at all. “My jewelry’s all fake — from Claire’s. Or I get it from my mom’s boutique in Barbados. Her shop’s called FAB-U-LUS,” she says. And she’s candid about her ever-changing hair. “It’s not my hair, but the girl who donated it, she’s the bomb,” she says. “I have two main hair people I work with. They’re always with me. I’m like, ‘I’m bored! I wanna change my hair!’ That’s the good thing about a weave. You can do whatever with it.”
She also shares the secret to her signature hard-to-replicate style: It’s shopping in the men’s department, then adding some killer shoes. “You can do anything with a great jacket, the bigger the better. You can have any silhouette underneath. It gives you an attitude. It makes a gown look cool,” she says. And as to staying upright in those heels? “It’s not about pain. It’s about the commitment. I say to myself, ‘I want to look like this,’ and worry about the pain later.” Who knew it was that easy?
