Best Dressed of the Week: All Reese Witherspoon Needs Is an LBD to Take Out the Competition

PEOPLE.com readers really can’t resist a good LBD. Proof: This week’s best dressed star. Reese Witherspoon trumped two celebs in floor-skimming gowns for the title, and we’re not sure how we feel about it.

Don’t get us wrong: The actress looks amazing in the long-sleeve Valentino design (worn to the Great American Songbook event in N.Y.C.) featuring an on-trend scalloped neckline. Our favorite part of the look is her textured waves and sexy smoky eye, but in general we felt it was a safe move for the star who earned close to 23,000 “Love It Votes” (a 90 percent approval rating!) to beat out the competition.

Trailing Witherspoon’s stylish footsteps, Elizabeth Hurley nabbed the No. 2 spot in a slinky dove-gray halter with interlocking rings at the neckline at the London Royal Portrait Gallery event. She completed her glam look with a white fur coat and earned an 81 percent “Love It” rating from readers. And rounding out the top 3 was our personal favorite this week, Diane Kruger, who stunned in a white Elie Saab gown with a sheer skirt at the Better Angels premiere in Berlin.

We want to know: Did Reese deserve the top spot? Or were you hoping for a more formal look like Diane’s white gown? Share your thoughts below!

I don’t usually vote on the best dressed star of the week, but personally I think it’s tacky for People to ask for readers opinions on who was best dressed and then say that the readers picked the wrong person because another starlet looked way better. This isn’t the first week that I’ve read an article where that has happened. I think Reese looks great in her dress and I would’ve voted her best dressed!

I agree with Lauren. What is the point of asking what readers think each week if majority of the time the choice is made, the writers end up complaining about it? I understand that your average editor of fashion usually tends to appreciate trends, risk-taking and creativity, however, majority of readers value a classic, well put-together ensemble more than a stand-out for one-body-type kind of outfit. I swear, if I keep reading reactions like this for this particular weekly piece I’m gonna stop voting all together.

can’t stand this woman, she would look better with a bag over her head.

Here’s the thing I see…the editors have the idea that Diane Kruger has the most fabulous look in her see-through skirt, but who really wants to wear anything like that, seriously? I am tired of the see-through look, whether it is a blouse, a skirt, a dress, anything! It’s a style with no ability to last a whole season, really, let alone look so great I want to vote for the person wearing it to be a “look of the week” star. I agree with Lauren, as well, but also, why do I want to vote for someone just because they are wearing something that looks as if my 8 year old designed it, and I didn’t have the guts to say to my stylist, “Emperor’s New Clothes, my dear…go read it!”. Someone needs a dose of good taste; whether I like Reese Witherspoon or not, her dress is much more lovely, suitable, and has a look a woman can actually emulate.

Reese looked fierce but classic at the same time. Not even sure why Diane and Elizabeth were even mentioned as they really weren’t standouts. Also, similar to what other commenters have said, if this is an article about what readers think, editors/writers should reserve their opinions for other articles.clearly the readers have spoken.

I love Valentino but that its a boring dress.

I USED to think that Reese was a class act, until her drunken arrest. Now she seems like just another spoiled rotten Hollywood pompous a$$. It’s going to take an awful lot to redeem herself in my eyes.

I love the dress and love the look but I must say I do not like her in short dresses, her legs look awful. She has old lady legs!
