If you thought fur crop tops and cow-hide overalls were the craziest thing to hit New York Fashion Week, you weren’t thinking big enough. Rodarte managed to take the coveted “geek chic” and “wackiest” categories with their fall/winter range of Star Wars-themed gowns.
From left, C-3PO, Luke Skywalker, the Death Star and even Yoda are featured on the new dresses by Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters (we hope Chewbacca and Princess Leia don’t feel left out) — the duo clearly went for an otherworldy moment with the collection. And while we can’t quite imagine one of these gowns hitting the Oscars red carpet, the designs would be perfect for a Star Wars-themed Met Gala. (How about it, Anna Wintour?)
Rodarte’s pop culture fashion play also had us imagining which stars we’d love to see step out in the gowns. Here’s a quick list:
• Dakota and Elle Fanning: The sisters are huge supporters of the label, and Dakota was front row at this week’s show to get a close look at the unique dresses. Plus, Elle was bold enough to wear this tie-dye dress. We think it’s a definite possibility.
• Natalie Portman: Okay, maybe we’re living in a dream world, but we’d love to see Portman (Padmé!) return to her Star Wars roots and throw on that Luke dress. Sure, her allegiance is with Dior nowadays, but she’s a longtime Rodarte fan — they even designed her wedding dress.
• Solange Knowles: She can pull off anything. Enough said.
• Miley Cyrus: The singer loves to make a style statement, and she’d be a bit more covered up if she selected one of these dresses.
