Nicole Kidman: 'It's Taken Me 40-Something Years, But I Embrace the Curl'

Nicole Kidman has been gradually shaking her “ice queen” image over the past year (how could we forget these Jimmy Choo ads?) but her most recent interview, for InStyle‘s March issue, may just shatter that perception altogether.

The star is warm, candid and funny in the interview, talking about her romantic marriage to Keith Urban and their sweet daughters together. While he often visits her on set and she and the girls frequently join him on the road, they do find themselves apart for periods of time due to their hectic work schedules. And when that happens, he works to keep the spark alive. “For every single night he’s away, he leaves me a love letter. Every single night of our relationship,” she says. “It keeps us close.”

She credits her family for helping her embrace certain aspects of herself, like her curly hair — famous in her Days of Thunder days but straightened for almost all of her 20-plus year career. “I almost never straighten it anymore,” she says. “It’s taken me 40-something years, but I embrace the curl. My littlest daughter has the same hair. She likes it when my hair is curly, so I wear it for her.”

And she also confesses that life on the road with a musician has made her (gasp) a fan of fast-food burgers. “Keith and I eat at Wendy’s,” she admits. “You’ve got to remember, I’m with a musician on a tour bus. We do drive throughs!” We’ll never see her as that aloof ice queen again!

For lots more on her happy family, her favorite red carpet gowns ever and what she’ll never do before bedtime, pick up the issue, on stands Friday, and visit InStyle.com. Then tell us: What do you think of Kidman going curly again? How do you keep your relationship romantic?

Love this!

“I embrace the curl” says the woman with the straight hair on the magazine cover. Womp.

Her “curls” look great on the cover…..

About time she embraced the curl, which was one of her loveliest features when she was younger. Now hopefully she won’t get so much botox. After a certain age, trying too hard to appear younger actually makes you look older & kinda desperate.

I’ve always liked the way she looked with curly hair. I have to bring this up because she always mentions her little daughters. Does she ever speak of her older son and daughter with Tom Cruise? Has she simply washed her hands of them because of Cruise and Scientology? They were so close when they were young.

I get it about the hair… Mine is also naturally curly, which I don’t love, but my youngest also has my hair. I too wear it curly for her, but would much rather have it straight. Keith seems like an awesome hubby…love the letter idea. And I just love his huge Nicole tattoo.

Really? So where are the curls on the cover of this mag? Where is her naturally (red) curly hair? She was so beautiful, now just harsh, in my opinion.

You do realize that People chose the photo to go with this story, not Nicole. So don’t blame her for not showing her curls.

Her hair looks awful here. Obviously the stylist’s fault. The lighting is weird too. I like her hair red…hope this blonde is just for a role.

Nicole and Keith are a great example of it’s never too late to live happily ever after. Amen.
