We Tried It: Sally Hansen's New 'I Heart Nail' Kit
What is it: Sally Hansen “I Heart Nail” art kits
Who tried it: Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor
Why I did it: Because I’m tired of spending over $50 bucks for a tricked out mani (aka I’m getting married in October, and it’s time to save some money)
Level of Difficulty: 3. Thanks to the handy “dotting tool,” which you use to apply the fun appliques, it’s pretty simple (Trust me, I was skeptical at first too!)
I love trying anything mani related. (See more on that here.) I’m also a huge fan of Sally Hansen polishes, so I jumped at the chance to try the brand’s new nail art kits.
I was lucky enough to have some assistance from master celeb manicurist Tracylee. She’s Sally Hansen’s nail ambassador and came by the office to show off the fun new products with me so I could share my experience with you. Since I already had a pink polish on my nails, all we needed was some good clear top coat and the nail appliqués. For my look, we mixed three different kits together: the fringe glitter, gold studs and hot-pink beads.
Here’s the easy four-step process:
1. Add clear top coat to your nail bed
2. Dab the “dotting tool” with some clear top coat then use it to pick up your appliqué
3. Place appliqué on nail using medium pressure
4. Repeat until desired look is created and finish off with another swipe of clear top coat
I usually have a shaky hand when applying my own polish, but the tool made it very easy to use. See how I did in the video below!
Verdict: Getting embellished manis can cost anywhere from $50 to $150 in N.Y.C., and if a $1.59 kit (see the different themes below!) can get you the same effect, it’s a total no-brainer in my book. Plus, there’s something kind of relaxing about putting your cell phone down and concentrating on just your nails for a little bit. Use it as an excuse for some “me” time. (I need to start taking my own advice!)
