Julianne Moore: 'We All Have Our Moments When We Look Awful'

We sort of thought Julianne Moore might be selling her soul to someone sinister to have skin and hair like that (see left) at 53. As it turns out, her beauty regimen is much simpler: Kérastase Elixime shampoo and conditioner, L’Oréal Age Perfect Glow Renewal lotion and a dab of her all-time favorite scent, Kiehl’s Musk. But even though she rarely has an “off day,” she still takes issue with paparazzi snapping pics of celebrities when they leave the house barefaced.
“I want people to look natural and normal, and I’m all for showing that, but I don’t like when magazines show pictures of someone looking terrible,” she says in the March issue of Redbook. “We all have our moments when we look awful. My gosh!”
She’s also been on the receiving end of the heavy-handed Photoshop treatment, which she didn’t mind until her daughter had, perhaps, an overly candid reaction to her retouched face. “Sometimes a magazine wants to see my actual skin, and other times they’ll airbrush [the freckles] out. I don’t care either way,” she said. “Once my daughter saw me on a cover where I had no freckles and said, ‘That doesn’t look like you at all!’ And then — just like a kid — ‘I like you better without them.’ Thanks!”
Perhaps our favorite piece of beauty scoop from Moore? She feels a kindred spirit with other redheads. “Whenever I see one on the street, I nod or say hello. I feel like there’s a redhead collective — you notice each other,” she said. As if we weren’t already jealous enough, now we don’t get to be in her hair club? So unfair.
