Chanel Wants You to Wear Bridal Sneakers. Are You In?

Any girl who grew up in the 1990s can tell you that one of the best bridal accessories of all time were Annie Banks’s wedding sneakers in Father of the Bride. And it looks like Karl Lagerfeld still has his VHS copy of the film in heavy rotation, because 22 years later, he’s bringing the same sporty bridal look to the runway.
In fact, high-fashion athletic gear was a recurring theme in the designer’s Chanel Haute Couture fall/winter show — many models hit the catwalk in glittering kneepads and fanny packs to go with the lace, tulle and sequin-accented sneakers. But it was the final, bridal look, featuring model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne, that had us buzzing.
Wearing an over-the-top feather headpiece and accompanied by “ringbearer” Hudson Kroenig in a fully sequined miniature suit jacket, Delevingne descended the stairs of Chanel’s famously opulent set to close the show. And as bizarre as it is to mentally associate “Chanel” with “athletic shoes,” we have to give Lagerfeld credit for eliminating one of a bride’s biggest fears: tripping down the aisle in heels.
So what do you think: Yea or nay to bridal sneakers? Can Chanel make them cool? Weigh in below!
