Tamera Mowry-Housley Cuts Her Hair, Rocks Her Curls

She may not have waited for a red carpet to debut her new do, but Tamera Mowry-Housley’s new haircut is just as buzzworthy as the ones we were loving at last night’s Golden Globes. The actress took to Twitter to share a look at her brand-new do, and it’s a major departure from what we’re used to for her.

It’s hard to find stars who embrace their natural curls — after all, curly hair can be a little unpredictable, which is a celebrity’s enemy in a world full of paparazzi. Mowry-Housley herself has often worn her hair long and wavy or ironed straight. For curly girls who look to the red carpet for hair inspiration, it can get frustrating not to see their hair texture represented. Well, that may change with Mowry-Housley’s new haircut, which she alluded to at Twitter before the big reveal:

She name-checked stylist Shai Amiel, who calls himself the curl doctor, before posting the big reveal on Instagram (above). “Love my big chop…love my curl doctor @shaiamiel You did it again!” she wrote. And did he ever. She’s got the curly hair holy trinity — definition, shine and shape — and she knows it.

How great does Mowry-Housley’s new cut look? And can we get the number of that curl doctor?

Pretty either way

Kate on

So cute. I like it so much more than with the bangs.

holly on

Awesome! I don’t know why more people don’t rock their natural curls!

CH on

I liked the before pic the after makes her forehead to high for her face.

jodi on

Ummmmm, she has a high forehead, she needs to pull some curls forward, then she would look cute:-)

Esther on

Love it! Looks absolutely beautiful, Tamera.

Sable Senegal on

I don’t think the haircut flatters her face.doesn’t look even, but she is pretty and from my experience hair does grow back.

Ms. Anne on

No.
But it is her hair.

Gretchen on

I love Tia and Tamera, and the curls are beautiful, but girl has enough forehead she needs some curls in front, or a “fringy” effect to pull this off. Curls are wonderful!

Leigh on

Adorable.

Jane on

I like when people wear their natural hair, but oddly enough, it looks more like a wig. It looks like she has a receding hairline. Agree with others that she needs a bit of hair on her forehead.

lylah on

Not great.

MH on

She looks so beautiful natural. I love this hair cut on her.

BBB on

Tamera is gorgeous, but that new look isn’t great. Curls are nice, but what she’s got going on doesn’t look good. Actually, her curly hair in “Sister Sister” was a million times better than this.

Bebe on

Those aren’t her natural curls if you recall her curls from her teenage years. They are heat damaged from straightening, as evidenced by the 2 straight pieces on the floor. The cut by the curl doctor is not layered properly for curly hair.

Tootsie on

It looks like a polyester wig that is nothing like the little bit of her natural hair that you can see.

Guest on

I don’t recall her hair every having such a loose curl pattern. If anything I remember both sisters had very curly tight coily hair which is beautiful! Maybe she’s go back to that!

angie on

waaaaaay better shorter but where in the heck did that massive forehead come from???

Pam on

That does look like a wig! And I agree with others about the big forehead, that’s probably why she had bangs before, to cover it up.

nicole on

Love what Holly said about more people should rock their natural curls.. its awesome, how I wish I had curls.

jenn on

very pretty i even like her without all that make up and lipstick she is gorgeous and it really shows when she is all natural

Pacificgirl on

Why does she keep cutting her hair and putting weave in to make it long? This is the 2nd time already.

Lynne on

Don’t love it, her forehead is too high for the style, but if it’s natural, she should embrace it. Hate the long extensions alot of the ladies wear, the hair looks fake and it’s not always flattering. She needs some bangs and the fact that she has no make up on in this picutre doesn’t help matters.

shawna on

Love it..more natural….just saying…pretty either way!

blair on

She is just a natural beauty, so any hair style looks great on her!

Amber on

Her bangs make her look like Jackie from Sister Sister! Either way, Tamara is a beautiful lady.

L on

Shes so cute, looks beautiful either way!

elysummers on

I don’t know, her forehead is kinda high. But she’s beautiful and I love the natural curls. You go girl!

meta on

if i saw the person on the left go by me on the street i would not look twice …but if i saw the image on the right walked by…i would totally think “gorgeous”.

Neenee on

I love it! And as a large forehead woman myself I’m kinda resenting all these ” cover ur forehead” comments. I’ve heard Rihanna, Angelina Jolie, and Tyra Banks called big forehead before and they’re all beautiful. Time for us to stand proud with our “fiveheads” no bangs needed! Lol

Tina on

Yuck. I can’t even make out what kind of hairstyle that’s supposed to be. It just looks like a mess. And she has a large forehead, so it only accentuates that.

trena on

In the before picture she’s obviously wearing a wig or a weave. She’s a beautiful woman but her hair in the after picture is not cute.

TX Denise on

I think Tamera looks beautiful with her new haircut and curls. Adding a little fringe of bangs would make it even better; I don’t even have a high forehead, but still like to have a little fringe of bangs to soften the look.

KT on

Love curly hair! I’ve had super straight hair all my life and love to see someone embrace their curls and rock it! Lovely.

Idalis on

She looks pretty without the makeup. As for her hair, both styles look like weaves to me but at least the before covered all that forehead!!

Lindsay on

“after all, curly can be a little unpredictable, which is a celebrity‚Äôs enemy in a world full of paparazzi.”

UGH stfu people, you morons.

Vanessa on

I don’t like it, she looks better with the old do.

Jan on

Luv it! she has a beatiful face without the bangs, very glamorous and modern.

Jennifer on

That forehead is easily a five-head.

Currently sue on

I Like the before picture.

breadsticks on

cute, it’s a nice switch.

memo on

Cute enough but like it better with the bangs

noname4me on

Smelly African American hair on the floor

SJ on

Luv It ! Tamera

Maggie on

She looks great! The first picture is cute, but it looks beautiful in the second. She looks like she is embracing a more natural look and it works for her! :o)

Charli on

She looks like her son in the curly pic. I like her better without the make up

tanya on

I think she looks adorable with curls.

Pat on

I like the curls, but would like to see a little more length.

dr.girlfriend on

It looks ok. I liked her sisters pixie cut. She looked beautiful and said how much she loved it but then always wore wigs and extensions it’s like she only wore it once.

dr.girlfriend on

It’s ok. I liked her sisters pixie cut better. She raved of how much she loved it but then always wore wigs and extensions. Rock the pixie tia!

thesarahir on

Its cute, Not great, but cute. I like her either way.

Jean on

I love the curls.

The twin really look like each other, but still Tia is better looking.
