Julianne Hough Bucks the Short Hair Trend and Gets Extensions

The pixie may be the haircut of 2013, but Julianne Hough is going against the beauty grain. The star has a new hair motto: #longhairdontcare.

Hough debuted extensions — courtesy of stylists Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee at the Nine Zero One salon in Hollywood — on Tuesday at a pre-concert event for Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter tour in L.A. And she’s definitely loving the look, sharing her transformation on Instagram with the caption “#changeisgood.”

Capri also posted a snap of the actress’s transition from short to long. Originally, the Great Length extensions (a favorite brand in Hollywood) went past her waist, before Capri cut them into a chest-length angled chop. It also looks like Hough cut some long piecey side bangs to complete her look.

“Don’t worry, It’s just for a project… @juleshough signature short hair will be back eventually,” Capri captioned the above photo. She then told PEOPLE, “Julianne needed a lot of Great Lengths extensions to blend, because she herself has thick hair as well as her hair was so short. We wanted to give her a long shag for an edgier, piecey look. She loves it and can’t wait to rock different hair styles!”

As saucy as the look is, we’re happy to hear her new do is only for a role, because we loved her amazing lob. But we also think it’s fun to change things up (read about one editor’s experience with extensions here). Are you a fan of Hough’s long hair? Sound off below!

I love it!

The cut is nice but a more golden blonde would suit her better…this color makes her look really pale, and the eyebrows are awful!

Theresa on

I’m shedding a tear for her black face.

Gina on

Seems like a waste to cut that much off them. Do they come in standard lengths? Anyway, she looks cute with short or long hair.

Ally on

She’s beautiful with both styles, but I do wish she’d back off on the dark eyebrow pencil.

I guess I am blessed to have naturally long hair, but I just don’t get the extension thing. Why not grow your hair out like the rest of us?

No matter how hard they try or how expensive they are, they just can’t make extensions look like natural hair.

@ Jennifer lol what’s there to “get”? Some people have long thin hair and get extensions for thickness…others get colored extensions so they don’t have to risk damaging their own hair to dye it…in Julianne’s case she needed longer hair for a project she’s apparently working on. There’s lots of different reasons that people do it.

dear julianne, look at your career. change your hairdresser. no one likes short hair. you are stunning with long hair…like you used to have. what are you doing to yourself.

Bobi on

Love shorter hair and not seeing long stringy hair that is constantly getting in the face!! Julianne is darling any way that she wears her hair as she has the face to pull either style off.
