What We're Buying: Wear-Everywhere Booties, Two Killer Dresses and Our New Favorite Sweater
This week, we’re all about pieces that are comfortable but still flattering and sexy. Debby Ryan weighs in with her pick for “best bootie ever,” while two of our editors find the perfect body-hugging dresses that don’t squeeze or suffocate, and another found the elusive perfect cold-weather sweater for under $30. Read on below to see what’s the best thing in our closets at the moment.
Whitney Little, Associate Producer: Here’s a surprise: I’ve purchased yet another article of clothing from H&M! This time I was on the hunt for the perfect winter sweater, which must meet the following requirements: It has to actually be warm, it should be flattering yet loose enough to qualify as “comfy,” and it absolutely cannot send my hair into a static frenzy. So, basically, my standards are pretty high.
Lo and behold, H&M came through yet again with this knit sweater, which is only $24.95. And, even better, the store was having a BOGO sale, so I purchased the striped and polka dot versions for the price of one. I’ve already been wearing them nonstop, as they’re both work-appropriate and cozy enough for those freezing New York weekends where I don’t feel like changing out of my PJs.
And in case you’re wondering: No, I have no plans on getting off the H&M train anytime soon.

Debby Ryan, star of the Disney Channel’s Jessie: These Tory Burch ankle booties are the perfect fall staple. The stacked heel’s size is perfect and totally wearable all day.
I love pairing them with a distressed skinny and tee or with a dress to give it a more utilitarian feel. They may have a hole in the bottom by the time spring rolls around!

Andrea Lavinthal, Style News Director: Before I tell you all about my latest purchase, you need to watch the debut video of our new 5 Ways To… series. What did you think? The smoky eye was a bit much, I know, but hopefully you loved the dress.
I borrowed it from the nice people at Club Monaco and I loved it so much that I bought it. The striped/checkerboard design creates an optical illusion so you somehow appear curvier, yet thinner at the same time. And the fabric sucks everything in like shapewear. The dress doesn’t really need any accessories, but that didn’t stop me from adding a killer Lulu Frost necklace.
Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I don’t know why drinking and shopping is becoming a theme in my “What We’re Buying” entries, but for better or worse, it’s happening. This time, I was in wine country for the Napa Valley Film Festival and found myself shopping at the adorable Napa boutique Cake Plate, sauvignon blanc in one hand and an armful of dresses in the other.
Just as I headed into the dressing room, the boutique co-owner Paige topped my heaping pile of clothes with this pretty lace-embellished Velvet by Graham & Spencer dress. I don’t know whether it was the wine, the fact that I was testing some pretty serious shapewear (stay tuned for that story Thursday) or the reactions of all the girls outside the dressing room, but I felt amazing and I couldn’t pull out my credit card fast enough. It’s simple, sexy, flattering and comfortable. What more could you want in a dress? If you can’t get to Napa, Shop Adorn has it on their site now.
