Karlie Kloss's Sexy Nude Bedazzled Bodysuit Has a Distinguished Lineage
The Victoria’s Secret fashion show had more than its fair share of outré style moments (exhibit A: Taylor Swift’s Union Jack fascinator), but Karlie Kloss’s glittering nude bodysuit may have garnered the most buzz of them all.
“The bodysuit is insane,” Kloss told PEOPLE of the look before the show started. “It’s the most covered up I’ve been in any Victoria Secret fashion show, but its actually just as sexy. It’s pretty stunning.”
And she wasn’t kidding. While we wouldn’t exactly classify the look as “covered up,” it certainly delivered on “stunning.” But at this point, a nude sparkling bodysuit is practically a dress code for a certain rite of passage onto Hollywood’s A-list. Here, we examine the history of the look.
Britney Spears pioneered the gem-encrusted sheer ensemble at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, and brought back a similar look in the music video for ‘Toxic’ (watch it below) in 2009. Jennifer Lopez took the stage at the American Music Awards in 2011 wearing a blinged-out onesie, and at the Much Music Awards in 2012 Katy Perry did the same, though slightly more demurely, adding a visible lining to the look. And because Kloss had to up the ante somehow, she added some major shoes and some swingy beading to her bodysuit. We can’t even imagine how the next star is going to top this one.
What do you think of the bedazzled bodysuit revolution? Are you a fan of Kloss’s style? Tune in to CBS Dec. 10 at 10 p.m. for all the onstage action.
