Jessica Chastain is so pretty, she oughta be in pictures. And we’re not just talking about the movies. For the December issue of Vogue, Annie Leibovitz shot the actress in a series of photographs inspired by works of art by Klimt, Magritte and van Gogh, among others — and the results are stunning (see two more photos below).

PHOTOS: More star style right this way!

And while she poses as famous portraits of historical beauties, the portrait that emerges of the star herself in the Vogue piece is of someone very private, quiet and shy. Of having to portray a seductive woman in a Robert De Niro-directed film, Chastain says, ““I did not feel like a beautiful woman that people would kill each other for. Jessica — who I am in my personal life — I’m very shy, I feel very awkward, I don’t feel like a femme fatale at all.”

Perhaps not, but in her spread, she certainly looks the part in this issue. To see more, check out Vogue.com or pick up the latest issue on stands November 19.
