Jennifer Lawrence: 'Nothing Can Motivate Me' to Exercise

She may look pretty athletic when she’s sprinting through the jungle and wielding a bow and arrow in the Hunger Games movies, but in real life, the newly short-haired Jennifer Lawrence wants to make one thing clear: That’s all thanks to the magic of the movies.

“Nothing can motivate me” to diet and exercise, the actress says in InStyle‘s December issue. “During Hunger Games, when I was eating ungodly amounts, I used to tell myself, ‘Stop eating, people are going to see this. This movie is going to be around forever.’ But nope! I was like, I still want candy and I still want a hot dog!”

She then thought she’d be more disciplined for the X-Men movies, in which she wears blue body paint and nothing else (the writer confirms). But that didn’t pan out either. “Then X-Men started, and I thought, ‘Oh definitely, I’ll work out and diet.’ But nope. Not me!”

About that blue body paint: It comes with an occupational hazard, and we’re not just talking about being naked on set half the time. “It’s like wearing rubber paint,” she says. “Very dehydrating. I drank bottle after bottle of water and I only peed twice a day.”

But while she was willing to strip down and suffer perpetual thirst, there was one thing she wasn’t willing to do for her role as Mystique: dye her hair. The InStyle story was written pre-pixie cut, and though Lawrence lamented the “awkward length and awkward color,” she was firm about one thing: “No more color after Hunger Games — it’ll all fall out.” So now we know the new look is less for style purposes and more for a fresh start.

For lots more on the always-amusing (and super beautiful — just wait ’til you see the photos) Lawrence, pick up December’s InStyle on stands Friday, and be sure to visit InStyle.com for the full style retrospective.

What do you think of Lawrence’s statements? Are you excited for her new movies?

I love this chick as much as I can love someone I don’t know; so refreshing in such a vapid industry

I love her! As whateveryousay states, Jennifer Lawrence is completely refreshing. So intelligent and always has highly entertaining, self-depreciating comments. I hope she continues to entertain us for several decades to come. Great actor but apparently without the emotional and mental issues we see in most other performers, especially in her age group.

She’s so pretentious with her fake cool attitude.

LuvLeeRita on

Having a baby and thunder thighs will motivate her.

She’s still in her early 20s…when I was that age I didn’t exercise either. Give her another 10 years and I bet she’ll be exercising — in your 30s you can’t eat whatever you and not exercise without having it show!

Heart disease, high cholesterol leval, cancer or a diabete diagnosis will motivate you. Better yet, prevention againstt diseases should motivate you.

Tess, I agree. I like her, but I think she’s trying too hard to seem “real.”

No idea why people are so harsh on her. She didn’t come off as anything other than a 20 year old who doesn’t have the willpower for doing something she really doesn’t need to do. She isn’t fat, she shouldn’t diet. If she’s healthy then why should she be obsessed with it? Sounds more like she is a bit more normal than Holllywood types typically are.

I’ve always liked her- but that’s a little annoying. Exercise is good for you. It’s not really that cool to brag about how you don’t exercise. There are a lot of fun and non boring ways to get in a good work out. You don’t have to go to the gym if you find it tedious and boring.

I just love her! I feel the same way about exercising, the thought of going to the gym is not appealing to me. I prefer going for a hike or shakin’ it out on the dance floor!
