CoverGirl has another big announcement, and we have the exclusive scoop! Two weeks after welcoming Katy Perry to the family, the cosmetics brand is adding another spokesmodel to their A-list roster: professional figure skater Ashley Wagner.

No, she’s not selling out stadiums or swinging on vines Tarzan style. But Wagner, 22, definitely has her own brand of star power. And if she’s not a household name yet, she will be next year as she pushes to achieve her gold-medal goal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. (Plus, how amazing does she look in a golden leotard in this exclusive photo?)

“Adding an Olympic medal to everything that I have already accomplished would be so huge for me,” she tells PEOPLE in the exclusive interview below. “It’s been my dream since I was probably about seven years old, and I watched Tara Lipinski win her own medal so to be able to achieve that it would just be icing on top of the cake.”

And Wagner will definitely be repping CoverGirl on the ice.

“I am a total girly-girl when it comes to makeup and putting together that whole package for the ice, so for me I usually like to pick out either a bold lip or a bold eye,” she shares. “Especially for my rock-and-roll program I love to play up the eyes so much, and I use this amazing mascara, the Flamed Out mascara by CoverGirl, and it gives my lashes just this perfect look. It really helps pull together this really bold eye.”

The award-winning skater also uses CoverGirl outside the rink: “My favorite off-the-ice CoverGirl product would have to be the nail gloss. I love playing around with fun colors and making different designs. For me, I absolutely love this brilliant red color called Lasting Love, which is so perfect for my Romeo and Juliet program. Plus, the top coat is really shiny so I only have to put on one coat. It also dries super quick and easy, so I’m on the go.”

As for her costumes, the award-winning athlete has them ready to go.

“Costuming is one of the biggest parts of skating and so of course I have it all planned out already,” she says. “For my short program I’m skating to Pink Floyd. So it’s something that’s a little more rock-and-roll. It has a little bit more of a sexier vibe to it then my long program, Romeo and Juliet. So its very romantic pretty, pretty colors. I’m thinking about something deep, dark burgundy. Something like that and I can’t wait to put them all together and show them off at the Olympics.”

It’s an error to refer to a competitive skater aiming for the Olympics as a “professional”. Pro skaters are those who have retired from serious competition and perform pretty much only in shows.

I love Ashley’s new programs for this year. She’s a great, mature skater and I hope to see her do great.

@ kate os backwards to me t not call a competitive skater aiming for the Olympics a professional.

Christy on

Actually, she is technically classified as an amateur. She is prohibited from being paid to teach lessons (many top-level skaters have endorsement deals to make ends meet). A figure skating professional is someone who has ‘retired’, meaning they are no longer eligible to compete in the Olympics.
