What to Wear This Weekend, From Date Night to Brunch
This week’s “What to Wear” is all about casual comfort that highlights your best assets and looks like you spent lots of time on your outfit. Only you have to know the truth!
Saturday night: Some weeks, we’re all about looking cute and staying comfy — for a movie date, for instance, or a haunted hayride. Other weeks (like this one), we’re all about you hitting the town looking like a total smokeshow and snapping necks in your wake. To accomplish this, we recommend following the Nicole Scherzinger formula: One part second-skin leather dress, one part pretty pumps, one part major hair. The cut of the dress (high neck, short sleeves and long skirt) keeps things on the classy side of sexy, and the embellished pumps add a ladylike angle that would have Usher, Ludacris and Lil Jon saying “Yeah!”
Knock ’em dead in this Topshop faux leather dress with a similar silhouette (and lace accents to boot!) for $130, then add feminine lace pumps (this pair‘s just $39) and break out the blowdryer and hairspray for some big-night-out hair. Have your man send us a thank you note on Monday.

Sunday brunch: Bedhead will look even better with a cute outfit for next-morning mimosa recaps. Mila Kunis has the right idea. She proves that cashmere doesn’t have to be stodgy — in fact, it’s downright hip when worn as a striped jacket (the black version of her Aqua topper is available for $250 at Bloomingdales) with ripped jeans and comfy slip-ons. Sure, the jumping dolphins graphic tee is a little goofy, but if you want to take this as a cue to wear your most beat-up college Battle of the Band shirt, be our guest.
Don’t want to spring for the luxe stuff? Dorothy Perkins has a cute striped camel-and-black jacket for $17 at the moment – and it’s another 25% off with code “DPFW25.” And because we know you’ve got the distressed jeans and slip ons, may we suggest a graphic tee from celeb-loved site-of-the-moment ShopJeen.com? Khloé Kardashian is a fan of this Hermès parody.
Monday morning: We see Eva Mendes in the “wear to work” category quite a bit, and that’s no accident: She has chic, effortless and modest dressing down to a science. Her midi-length skirt is ideal for fall, and the blush-pink blouse and waist-cinching belt are perfection (fasten the belt over a matching cardi if you need more coverage due to weather or office policy). As elegant as that all is, it’s the unexpected pop of color via her Marni bag and print heels that make this outfit worthy of your fashionista status.
Get a similar look with this Asos pleated skirt (it comes in eight styles and starts at $30) and add your own sophisticated accessories. Invest in a classic forest-green shoulder bag (this $198 Marc by Marc Jacobs number will go anywhere) and add a little fun with these $45 Nine West heels that come in every color and print under the sun.
