Bold red lip shades are all over the red carpet. And yes, the look can be intimidating (especially if you’re on a strict gloss diet). But if you’re like us, you totally have the itch to try out different deep red lipsticks. So we rounded up three degrees of wearing the trend, from beginner to advanced.
If you’re curious about the trend, but don’t want to go all out, try a look like our Celeb Style Council member, Ashley Madekwe. The actress sported a very natural complexion with a pretty pop of color on her pout at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in L.A., courtesy of Avon’s Ultra Color Lipstick in Cherry Jubilee, according to makeup artist Lauren Andersen.
Jennifer Hudson went a bit more dramatic pairing a smoky eye (with dark winged shadow that makes her eyes pop!) with a deep bordeaux hue at the Power of Women event in Beverly Hills. And Julianne Hough took the look all the way going for a very pale complexion (think 1920s flapper/Board Walk Empire extra), big lashes and a deep lip shade with a hint of brown at the FFANY Shoes on Sale event in N.Y.C. We think this proves that not only is there a great wine shade for every skin tone, but that this look works well no matter what your makeup comfort zone — from barely-there (à la Ashley) to totally done-up (see: Julianne).
