What to Wear This Weekend, From Date Night to Brunch

10/04/2013 at 03:30 PM ET

This weekend, casual comfort is key. We picked outfits from slouchy-sexy to structured and breezy to take you from date night Saturday to deskside Monday, without the need for Spanx, a flat iron, ten tubes of lipstick in your bag or a strapless bra. Check out our star-approved outfit picks, below, and in case you’re not flush with Hollywood funds, we found some lookalikes for less. Have fun!

Olivia Palermo red shoes

Saturday night: A scientific survey of men between the ages of 25-35 (okay, they’re our significant others, so perhaps “scientific” isn’t the right word) informs us that many men think their date is sexiest when she’s comfortable and low-maintenance with one kick-ass accessory. If that doesn’t describe Olivia Palermo’s Paris Fashion Week outfit, we don’t know what does. Her ripped AG Adriano Goldschmied jeans and blousy white top say “let’s go bowling and grab a beer!” while her unbelievable lace-up scarlet stilettos say “tonight may be a little more fun than bowling.” You’ve got the jeans and the top — now all you need is the striking red shoes. Any one of these should do the trick for under $60 (but if you’re feeling a little spendy, here’s a pair of Puccis marked down to $142!)

Katie Holmes jean jacket
Michael Simon/Startraks

Sunday brunch: One of our favorite feelings is spotting a piece we love on a star — and finding out it’s in our price range. (What can we say? We’re obsessed!) Which is why we started plotting our Katie Holmes-inspired brunch outfit the minute we found out her jacket was Catherine Malandrino for Kohl’s (on sale for $90 here). Rather than play up the sex appeal of a moto jacket, though, she gave it a relaxed spin with a cozy white sweater, skinnies and her favorite Frye boots.

Again, you’ve got the white sweater and perfect jeans, and we certainly wouldn’t blame you if you treated yourself to that great quilted topper. So that just leaves a hardy boot to round out your look. You could double up on the quilted theme, keep it classic with gold buckles or go edgy with studs — and all for under $70.

Monday morning: Kerry Washington followed up a day of three major dresses with — you guessed it — another day of three major dresses. And fortunately for us, one of those dresses happened to be perfect wardrobe inspiration for your return to work next week. One chic Michael Kors belted denim jacquard sheath plus one pair of gorgeous and unexpected Christian Louboutin leopard pumps equals the formula for the corner office (though of course, you may want to add a blazer or cardigan for your workplace).

Convinced? Here’s a $60 can’t-miss belted gray sheath and a $32.50 leopard pump — now go to work and get your Olivia Pope on.
