Bye, bye, brunette! Lily Allen has decided to ditch her auburn hair to return to the dark black color she sported back when she first rose to fame. “Back to black,” the star Tweeted along with a photo of herself in the process of having her highlighted locks brushed with dye — then shared a pic of the finished result shortly thereafter (see it after the jump!)

No word on what inspired the new hue, but we’d guess that since she’s had lots of major life events lately (she just gave birth to her second daughter earlier this year and her new album is about to be released) maybe the singer was simply yearning for a return to the old and familiar.

On the other hand, that sleek new bob and bangs looks like it’s giving her plenty to “smile” about. So what’s your verdict? Are you loving the shorter, darker look or do you think her hair looks better in a lighter shade of brown?
