It’s no secret that Julianne Moore is a major style crush of ours around the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices. We’ve gotten all the scoop on her gowns, oohed and aww-ed over her adorable stylist and poured one out for her amazing hair when she went blonde for a role (thankfully, she’s back to red).

So we may have done a little happy dance when we saw her gracing the October cover of InStyle. And the team at the mag did an amazing job putting her in dramatic high fashion, like Carven deerskin-print coats, Dries Van Noten feathered tops and Proenza Schouler jackets — all accompanied by bold red locks and Twiggy-inspired eyelashes.

The star dishes on work, love, kids and life throughout the piece, but we were most interested in her breakdown of her often black-and-white red carpet looks. Wonder why she relies on the contrasting hues so much? “Sometimes it’s hard to use a lot of color in my wardrobe because of my hair,” she shares, then breaks down looks like a custom Tom Ford tuxedo and Lanvin gown made just for her, plus she dishes on her favorite shoe designer.

For lots more from the lovely Moore, check out InStyle.com for her best gowns and beauty looks through the years, and pick up InStyle, on stands this Friday.

Tell us: What do you think of the star’s shoot for InStyle?

Seriously?? lol there are kids suffering from cancer who have no hair and she’s tripping on her own hair color…please….

So because someone is suffering from lack of someone else possess, it shouldn’t be enjoyed? Therefore sometimes complained about?

Grow up and pipe down. And remember dont complain about the food you eat or not getting enough sleep. There are starving and homeless kids out there too.

Um…The hair comment was due to her being interviewed for INSTYLE magazine–you know a fashion magazine! Understand the context before you bash her. I’m pretty sure Julianne Moore does not focus her life on her hair and probably donates tons of money to charities and even cancer research.

Seriously, Melissa, get a grip.

Well quit dyeing it so bright red. Tone it down a bit.

I am always concerned that I am too negative and judgey and then I come to people.com and people like Melissa remind me I could be so much worse!

There are so many colors that look wonderful on a redhead with porcelain complexion. Surely her stylists have showhn her what looks best on a redhead. She’s a very pretty lady

Exactly Becky! And, as a redhead, it’s very true. Our hair can, naturally, be very bright, making some colors not so great on us. I look like a cartoon character sometimes in certain colors!

There are other redheads who manage to wear more than black or white, though. If she likes black, she should say so and not blame her hair! Especially, as has been pointed out, I’m sure it’s no longer exactly her natural hair color.

I have red hair and I wear lots of colors.
