Lucy Hale Takes Us Behind the Scenes at Her Mark Shoot - and Tells Us the Secret to Those Lashes

There are a lot of things Lucy Hale doesn’t have in common with her Pretty Little Liars character, Aria. For starters, she’s not quite as “out there” in her style. And those amazing lashes you see on screen? Hale gets a little boost in that department too.

“People are always like, ‘Wow, you have great eyelashes!’ and I’m like, ‘They’re not mine!’” she told PEOPLE at a Saturday photoshoot for Mark cosmetics, for which she’s the brand ambassador. “With Pretty Little Liars it’s always glam 24/7, and so we’re always wearing fake eyelashes. I know how to apply [them] perfectly!”

But the Malibu shoot was about much more of a beachy glam — lots of glowy bronzer and floral nail art (below) to complement the “Instant Vacation St. Barths” beauty and fashion capsule collection that Hale was modeling for the brand’s spring 2014 “magalog.”

On a normal (non-modeling) day, you’ll see Hale at the beach looking laid-back: “I load up on sunscreen, don’t wear a lot of makeup and look for outfits that I can take from day to night.” And that same low-key style applies to her everyday beauty look, she says, telling us she relies on dry shampoo, great concealer and the perfect red lip to wake up her face.

If you’re looking to copy the star’s seriously amazing hair, you can start with Mark “More than Shine” hair serum (she loves the mini bottles for travel) and Oribe’s dry texturizing spray, which she uses between twice-a-week washes to minimize oil and add texture.

Then for her luminous skin, she relies on Mark makeup wipes to get her full face of camera-ready makeup off and keeps Kevyn Aucoin’s concealer handy to help combat under-eye circles from the long hours (Pro tip: She blends two shades to get the perfect match for her complexion). Finally, Mark Make It Rich lip crayon in “Hot Sauce” is her go-to shade at the moment for an immediate pick-me-up — she even sported it at the Mark 10th birthday party (seen above). “That lip color is to die for,” she says. “Everyone needs to own it. It’s so great!”

So how did Hale feel about being the new brand ambassador for the line — joining a group of women we love, including Lauren Conrad and Ashley Greene? Pretty great, she tells us. “I genuinely like the products, but they also stand for so much that I believe in,” Hale says. “Their whole motto is empowering women … I think they just stand for, ‘everyone’s beautifully made,’ and they’re all about embracing uniqueness and I’ve always sort of felt the same way.”

Hale promises lots more excitement, both on the Mark front and the Pretty Little Liars front, to come. But in the meantime, we’d like to get our hands on that lipcolor — and that Malibu beach house.

Tell us: What do you think of the star’s latest shoot? And how fast are you going to copy those cute nails?
