Victoria Beckham: 'I Absolutely Want an Empire'

If you ask Victoria Beckham, it’s certainly not enough that some of the biggest names in Hollywood are clamoring to wear her designs, or that her fashion show is one of the hottest tickets in town every year, or that she recognizes that she and husband David are considered a brand at this point (that “happened very organically,” she says.)

Nope, she’s got even bigger plans, she tells T, the New York Times Style Magazine. “I have five categories at the moment. But at some point I would love to do shoes, I would love to do fragrance, I would love to do makeup, I would like to do underwear,” she says. “I want to get bigger and bigger. I absolutely want an empire.”

But for all of her single-minded business determination, the star maintains a healthy sense of humor about herself. When someone mentioned placing some food in in the photos, shot by Juergen Teller, she joked, “We don’t want anyone to know I eat. Why ruin that?”

And when discussing her famously sour face in paparazzi photos, Beckham defends her signature look: “When you’re in a position to be ‘paparazzi-ed’ just walking down the street, you’d look a little daft if you were smiling all the time.”

Despite being a paparazzi target with an ever-growing fashion line, Beckham spends much of the piece discussing how normal she and David are as parents — and says something especially surprising for someone who considers herself a brand. “I don’t want to be made to look like I’m 25,” she said about her many magazine covers. “I’m 39. I don’t have any issues with my age.” And why would she? After all, she’s halfway to an empire and not even 40.

For even more from Beckham, check out T‘s website, and tell us: Do you like her designs? What do you think of her anti-smiling policy?

You don’t have to smile ALL the time, but smiling at least once in a while makes you seem human without a stick up your behind.

She doesn’t smile because her teeth are busted..with all that money, she should fix them.

Alot of adults don’t want to keep reliving their 20’s over and over. If she didn’t want to be a Spice Girl at the Olympics. that’s cool. She’s moved on. She possibly rarely smiles for cameras to be taken seriously as a designer. She seems happy with her life. That’s enough.

She’s about as cheerful as a deceased person at a funeral service! With that smug look and lack of smile and personality, there is absolutely NOTHING attractive about her! Beckham can have her!

LOVE this woman. She does no wrong in my book! She’s the epitome of fabulous.

I don’t think Americans think of her when it comes to fashion. I sort of liked her after she guested on American Idol. But she just doesn’t appear likeable at all. Good luck to her.

This woman DOES NOT know how to smile!

Money and power is all she wants. That’s sad.

…say what you want about Victoria Beckham, but she’s an ambitious, determined, savvy business woman, who’s worked hard (not only on her career), but to keep her marriage together. How can anyone fault that, when so many of “Hollywood” couples, toss in the towel. I personally think, society needs more of these types of role models for women….instead of the “teenage-and-pregnant” b.s., that’s shoved down society’s throats. And for the whole smiling thing….personally, having paparazzi following you around constantly, wouldn’t bring out the smile in me either!
