Victoria Beckham: 'I Absolutely Want an Empire'

If you ask Victoria Beckham, it’s certainly not enough that some of the biggest names in Hollywood are clamoring to wear her designs, or that her fashion show is one of the hottest tickets in town every year, or that she recognizes that she and husband David are considered a brand at this point (that “happened very organically,” she says.)

Nope, she’s got even bigger plans, she tells T, the New York Times Style Magazine. “I have five categories at the moment. But at some point I would love to do shoes, I would love to do fragrance, I would love to do makeup, I would like to do underwear,” she says. “I want to get bigger and bigger. I absolutely want an empire.”

But for all of her single-minded business determination, the star maintains a healthy sense of humor about herself. When someone mentioned placing some food in in the photos, shot by Juergen Teller, she joked, “We don’t want anyone to know I eat. Why ruin that?”

And when discussing her famously sour face in paparazzi photos, Beckham defends her signature look: “When you’re in a position to be ‘paparazzi-ed’ just walking down the street, you’d look a little daft if you were smiling all the time.”

Despite being a paparazzi target with an ever-growing fashion line, Beckham spends much of the piece discussing how normal she and David are as parents — and says something especially surprising for someone who considers herself a brand. “I don’t want to be made to look like I’m 25,” she said about her many magazine covers. “I’m 39. I don’t have any issues with my age.” And why would she? After all, she’s halfway to an empire and not even 40.

It’ll happen. She’s delightful and she has the determination combined with a humble attitude. A perfect combination for success. I think she’s fantastic! I met her at a signing – she was beyond friendly and unbelievably hilarious! Good luck Victoria!

I don’t care what anyone says … I like her. She really is quite personable and has a great sense of humor.

Love this woman. She does no wrong! :-)

I don’t care if she smiles or not – the Beckhams are one of my favorite families! I do believe that she will eventually get her empire!

She’s got David Beckham..why in the world would she want an empire??????

She comes across as a snob and an elitist. I don’t care for her or her brand. She already has an empire on the pouty face, that’s enough.

Wish she would smile.

Love her too, but I wish she would get that blank look off of her beautiful face when taking pictures…it’s enough already!

I love her designs. I just wish they were more affordable to those of us outside Hollywood.

I think she comes across as being very boring, unapproachable, and unfriendly. I have never seen a picture of her smiling in fact she always has a scowl on her face. So if someone has seen different that’s a shocker. I remember when the spice girls reunited for the Olympics how obvious she was about not wanting to be there. She tried hard to disassociate from the girls as though she’s better. Look, she puts her pants on the same way as the rest of us- one leg at a time . $$ does not make you a better person. As far as I’m concerned she and her family can go back to London and make $ there. I’m tired of all these untalented people acting as though they are so much better than others. What do they really contribute to society to make it a better place ?
