Kate's Post-Baby Style: What Can We Expect?

The Duchess of Cambridge‘s famously classic style didn’t miss a beat during her pregnancy, and now that the heir is born, we can’t imagine that she’ll suddenly start wearing sweats and a topknot.

And U.K. fashion expert Hilary Alexander agrees that we’ll be seeing more of the same lovely dresses — like the one she wore to introduce Baby Cambridge — as the Duchess enters her first few months of motherhood.

“Coming out of the hospital, she wore a very simple, pretty dress from one of her favorite designers,” Alexander said of Kate’s Jenny Packham polka-dots, adding of the dress’s forgiving cut, “She’ll stick to an empire line for the first month. At the moment, in this heatwave in London, the looser, the lighter, the better.”

That means that the sweatpants aren’t an option — even if the Duchess wanted them to be. “It’s just too hot for tracksuits,” Alexander said. “Maybe sleeveless maxi dresses or caftans in pure cotton — anything that is cool. Something easy to wear, [perhaps from] her favorite high street stores: Reiss, Hobbs, Whistles.”

The day the Duchess steps out in a caftan, we’re going to need to be immediately alerted, but judging by her blissed-out expression holding the baby on the St. Mary’s steps, it may be a while before she leaves the nursery again!

Love her! She looks so smitten with that little guy, so beautiful :)

She is headed o her parents’ home for the next 4-6 weeks. She can be as casual as she wants and can use the time to relax, recover and bond with her new little son. . I doubt that fashion and style will be in her thoughts much. When she again emerges, I think she will be right back to her classic and beautiful self.

She looks so happy, they look happy. Prince George is a cutie pie. They will be great parents to the future King. Hope the paps leave they alone for a while, let them enjoy the baby in peace.

I could never imagine her wearing a sleeveless maxi dress. That being said, I don’t know why people think maxi dresses are great for summer. They remind me of tents and I imagine would be quite hot and uncomfortable.

I’m sure her style will remain the same – elegant and timeless as usual! I could see her wearing a maxi dress to the grocery store or something but not on a big outing. Personally I can’t stand them – although I do have two or three more polished-looking ones.

@Ari, I bought a maxi-dress thinking it would be great it hot weather. Boy, was I wrong! It’s sleeveless, of course, but the length of it made my bottom half so uncomfortable! Having bought one, I’m not sure why they are all the rage either!
