Emma Roberts and Emily VanCamp Buck the Haircut Trend and Go Longer

07/23/2013 at 10:29 AM ET

It’s seemed like every starlet in Hollywood has gone shorter for summer — to the point where we were starting to wonder if extensions were going to become so 2012. But Emma Roberts and Emily VanCamp proved our theory wrong within a week of each other, each having gone to new lengths (and picked up a new hue while they were at it).

Emma Roberts typically wears her light brown hair straight and shoulder-length, but the star seemed ready for a change, debuting much-lighter locks that stretched past her shoulders. “@ninezeroone worked their magic on me!” she wrote on Instagram next to a picture of her new mermaid-esque waves, adding “#summerhair #longhairdontcare.”

Emily VanCamp also added significant extensions recently (for her ComicCon appearance), though she decided to go a shade or two darker instead. From the honey-colored hair that was grazing her shoulders mere days ago, she added several inches, a whole lotta volume, and darkened her hair shade to a deep sandy blonde.

Tell us: What do you think of the stars’ new length and color? Which look do you like best on them?
