Why Is Demi Lovato Tweeting About Barbie's Butt?

Demi Lovato has something to celebrate. Last month, the singer directed a string of Tweets at Barbie’s official handle expressing her concerns about the iconic doll’s unrealistic body type and urging Mattel to create a curvier model. And someone was listening.

No, you can’t go to Toys “R” Us and buy a Barbie with a booty yet, but artist Nickolay Lamm has given the doll a real life makeover.

Using CDC measurements of the average 19-year-old woman, Lamm’s real-life barbie cuts a curvier figure, is shorter in stature and has flat feet (because even Barbie should be able to rock a cute pair of ballet flats!).

Lovato, who’s an advocate for young women with eating disorders, shared a photo of Lamm’s prototype on Twitter, to the delight of her 15 million plus followers.

“Can I also say, that… That new @barbie’s got BACK!!!!! Hahahaha #bootybootybootyboottrockineverywhere” Lovato added of the doll’s transformation.

The one thing missing from the star’s ideal curvy barbie? Cellulite.

“1 of my biggest dreams, having collected Barbies since I was a kid, is to have my own Barbie BUT with my actual body type.. Weight & height,” she Tweeted last month, adding, “Also, Barbie should make dolls with cellulite!!! Hahaha!!! After all, around 95% of ALL women have it!!!”

Tell us: What do you think of the “real woman” Barbie? Should Mattel introduce the new model?

It’s just doll. My friends and I played with them when we were little but didn’t look to her (it) as a role model. It’s make-believe just like cartoons with talking animals. There doesn’t always have to be a deep seeded issue at hand.

No! Not everything has to be PC. Barbie has been this way forever and should remain so. Anyone blaming Barbie for their own body image issues should see a therapist

Ken has already filed for a divorce.

This is perfection. This stand for a change in society, a change that shows you don`t have to be skinny, you don`t have to have a body that only 8% of the population has. Demi should be extremely proud of what she has accomplished, she is a role model for all girls of all ages

95% of women have cellulite? I used to be over 200lbs and I have lost 100 and have never had cellulite haha.
This is silly honestly. My Barbies never gave me body image issues as a kid.

I think the new proportions are fine, but I think the new doll should a bit taller (if for no other reason so you can swap some clothes between body types)

Is it just me or is she trying to stay in the news, lately it’s been all about her issues and struggles she dealt with. Don’t get me wrong I think she should be able to talk about them, but why keep talking about them everybody knows what she’s been through.

She is a beautiful young girl, with great talent and millions of fans. She is a great model to younger girls, but please we heard enough of your eating disorder, self harm etc.

They tried this before with Barbie. It doesn’t work. People want perfection. It’s too bad, but it is what it is.

Honestly, this takes things a little not too far. I used to play with Barbie’s all the time when I was younger, and at one point during middle school I was still losing my baby fat and seemed a bit chubby, but I never hated on myself for not being barbie. She never made me feel bad about myself… I barely remember she existed, so if you blame barbie for your insecurities that’s crazy… I agree that they should at least make her a little bit taller, but adding cellulite is insannnnne. I think that takes it a step too far… That’s just weird.little girls don’t care about that stuff at all! Little girls don’t and shouldn’t even know what cellulite is. I don’t know what to say but I agree, demi is complaining about something noone even gives thought too
