What We're Buying: Summer Bags, Sexy Heels and Secret Sports Fan Jewelry
What are we buying this week? What aren’t we buying? Below, we rounded up a few of the things we found so irresistible, we had to buy them — and share them with you.
Style News Editor Alex Apatoff: I apparently have very wise aunts. One introduced me to my go-to caftan, and the other told me never to be afraid to ask strangers where they got anything I admire. “They always take it as a compliment!” she advised.
In that spirit, I chased down a girl at the 50th St. E stop in N.Y.C. to ask her where she got this cute tote. I was expecting to hear some astronomically expensive brand, but was psyched when she said “Aldo, on major sale!” instead. The next day I checked (still there, still $40!), called up the local Aldo to ask them to hold it for me, and I’ve been carrying it every day since.
The best part? The girl really did seem genuinely pleased that I asked. So take a page from my aunt’s playbook and don’t hesitate to let passersby know when they’re really rocking something. You may get an awesome wardrobe update out of it!
Style Director Andrea Lavinthal: For the last month I’ve admired associate editor Brittany’s black-and-white Zara heels from afar, but it wasn’t until she let me borrow them for my weekly Style Pop segment that I knew I had to own a pair myself. With their bold, geometric print and stacked heel, they’re a total outfit maker. I’m surprised at how cute they look with just about everything in my closet.
Now that I’ve snagged Brittany’s favorite summer shoes (just in time — they sold out!), I’m eyeing StyleWatch senior editor Marissa Rubin’s multicolored lace-up style, also from Zara. With more than 800 likes on Instagram, these heels are quite the show-stopper, not to mention on sale for $99.

Writer-Reporter Jackie Fields: Truth be told, I am a big time Major League Baseball fan. And if there’s a way for me to show my pride by showing off gear, I find it. For instance, I recently pranced around the office in my oversize, one-shoulder grey Boston Red Sox tee with my destructed skimmers and chunky black heels. Yes, I’m that girl.
In my ongoing search to amass an impressive collection of fan fashion attire, I hit a home run with this recent purchase: a sterling silver Boston Red Sox emblem created by celeb-loved designer Alex Woo, which I instantly added it to the collection of necklaces I sport daily. Living in the Big Apple (far from my home team!) I love this small but spirited way of rooting for the Sox. I’ll be wearing it through September — and hopefully through playoff season as well!
