What's Olivia Palermo's No. 1 Summer Fashion Faux Pas?

Our perennial style crush Olivia Palermo conquers all the seasons with impeccable taste — and frequently, tons of layers. But this summer, she’s going keep it light and airy.

“I always go for chiffon,” she told PEOPLE at the See by Chloé fragrance launch in New York City last week. “I think it’s elegant. It has movement, and it’s very easy to pack.”

Also in the suitcase: a great pair of open-toed heels for evening and ballet flats (her go-to) for day.

“I’m all for flats all year round, but especially in the summer,” she said, adding that sometimes, finding the perfect pair takes some thought. “You always have to find the right proportions for your leg. Each person is different.”

With the new season and the high temperatures, abiding by “less is more” can be pretty tempting. But according to Palermo, that’s summer’s worst fashion faux pas.

“People overexpose too much,” she confides. “A little crop sweater or jacket over a tank can also be as cute.”
